LINCOLN, Neb. (May 29, 2013) – Kinch Reindl, of Denver, Colo., earned his second-career Super Challenge title at last weekend’s Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo round at the Lincoln (Neb.) Airpark. The ProSolo event served as the opening two days of the four-day Spring Nationals that included a Tire Rack Championship Tour event, all at the site of this September’s Tire Rack Solo National Championships.
Reindl’s weekend goals began simply enough – to beat Jason Frank and Jeff Wong in Street Touring Compact class competition. Both drivers had topped Reindl in Lincoln last fall, providing an important measuring stick for a new car setup he was working on.
Driving his YourFreedomPodcast.com Honda Civic Si, Reindl outdrove Wong by 0.317-second in aggregate time to win the class and qualify for the Challenge.
In the field of 32 drivers in the bracket elimination Challenge, Reindl advanced past Jared Langenfeld’s (Mike Wilson Honda) Kart Modified qualifier for another anticipated showdown, this time against veteran Soloist Mark Madarash.
In an important win for his cause, Reindl outdrove Madarash (E Street Prepared Pontiac Trans-Am) to victory, celebrating wildly in his car as he crossed the final timing stripe. Reindl advanced to the semifinals when Chris Mayfield (Weston Auto Gallery Honda S2000) redlined his run.
Mike Forsythe (Stock Index 3 class, 3R Racing/A&LS Sheet Metal/SSHR Honda Civic Si)was Reindl’s semifinal opponent, and once clear of Forsythe, Reindl once again met up with a familiar opponent.
In the finals, Reindl squared off against another Colorado resident, James Darden (Stock Index 2, BMW 2002). Darden had eliminated Reindl from the Challenge at New Mexico a year ago, and the two friends often run at the same Solo events.
After the first of two rounds, Darden held a half-second lead. Pulling into the starting box for the final time, Reindl took a breath and prepared for his last chance at victory. Crossing the finish line first on the second of two runs, both drivers had to wait for official times to see who the winner was.
Timing awarded Reindl the title by 0.099-second.
In the consolation round, Forsythe squared off against Craig Wilcox (Stock Index 5 class, BFGoodrich Tires/Forgestar/Prime Motoring Mini Cooper). Wilcox had fallen in the semifinals to Darden, with Forsythe earning third place.
Kim Whitener, of Fort Worth, Texas, captured the Ladies Challenge title after defeating Nicole Nagler in the finals. Whitener (Texas Track Works/Motion Control Suspension Honda CRX) qualified third in Ladies Class 3, two positions behind Nagler (Toyo Tires/ProParts USA Honda Civic Si) before getting redemption in the Challenge.
Beth McClure-Strelnieks (Hoosier/JC AutoSpec/Jungle Cat Racing Porsche Boxster)topped Meredith Brown (Plastic PP Racing/MidAtlantic Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette) in the consolation round for third place after both fell in the semifinals.
The Tire Rack ProSolo Championship returns to action in the parking lots of FedEx Field in Washington, D.C., June 8-9.
