TOPEKA, Kan. (October 16, 2013) – When thinking of Lincoln, Neb., the first image that comes to mind is a beach party with 1,200 friends and family members. At least, that will be the case at the 42nd Tire Rack SCCA Solo® National Championships, held September 2-5, 2014 at the Lincoln Airpark. The Tire Rack ProSolo® Finale will be held the preceding weekend, August 30-31, 2014.
Each year, the Solo National Championship event has a distinct theme. In 2014, that theme will be all things beach related. The beach theme will permeate the entire event, from the event logo to promotions and decorations. Even the apparel worn by the event chiefs will hold to the theme.
In a change from the past years, the Monday night welcome party will be held on site as part of the concrete beach party. Though the ocean may be over 1,000 miles away, tiki torches and pools will dot the landscape for the event kickoff.
“The Solo community always blends serious competition with fun,” Howard Duncan, SCCA Vice President, Rally/Solo, said. “Come Monday at the welcome party, we’ll have a cheeseburger in what is a Soloists paradise. Hopefully nobody blows out a flip flop, and whether you survive the fin shaped cones to the left and the right for a National Championship, we can still all remember that it’s five o’clock somewhere.”
The Tire Rack Solo National Championships have run at the Lincoln Airpark since 2009, and will remain in Lincoln through at least 2017 per a long-term deal inked in January 2012. As part of the arrangement, an additional five-year option is included, which could keep the event in Lincoln through the 50th running in 2022.
The Tire Rack® SCCA Solo National Championships is the world’s largest motorsports event, welcoming nearly 1,200 drivers to the Lincoln Airpark annually. Drivers compete against the clock to set the fastest time on two pylon-marked courses, with a time penalty issued for each cone hit. The driver with the fastest aggregate time from the two courses in his or her class, is declared the National Champion. For more information visit www.scca.com/solo.
