Targa Competition Classes
Targa Competition classes are based upon SCCA National Time Trial Classes. However, as Targa is just for fun, the margins are slightly wider for allowed modifications. That means, if you bring a legally prepped Time Trials car for the one of the base classes, you’re in that class. However, if you have a car that fundamentally fits in the class, or is underprepared for the class, but has a normally-not-allowed modification, we are going to put you in the class you fit best in. But a warning for those of you who love to try to beat the rules, blatant attempts to loophole your way to victory will be rewarded with a bump to the next class up, so keep it simple and remember- Targa is just for fun.
When you sign up for the Targa, you will be asked what Time Trial class your car will be running. We will assign the cars to the most correct Targa class before the event. So there is no need to memorize these classes. However, for a basic breakdown of how the classes will flow:
Touring
Nutshell: Quick AND (mostly) comfortable. Good on track pace, with matching trunk space. Except for the Miata’s, obviously. But they can put the top down, sooo…
- Touring 1
Time Trial Classes: Sport 3 and Tuner 3
- Touring 2
Time Trial Classes: Sport 4, Tuner 4, and Club Spec Mustang
- Touring 3
Time Trial Classes: Sport 5, Sport 6, Tuner 5, and Club Spec MX5
Super Production
Nutshell: Choose your own adventure for legit lap times. Built vs bought. Transits vs lap times. A/C vs aero.

Time Trial Classes: Sport 1, Tuner 1, Max 3, and Max 4
- Super Production 2
Time Trial Classes: Sport 2, Tuner 2, Max 5
Unlimited
Nutshell: This is the “I wanna go fast no matter how much the transits hurt” class. Good luck, and godspeed. Literally.
