Targa Texasland's Coming Up: What to Know & When to Enter

SCCA’s Targa was a simple concept. Well, as simple as a single event that hits multiple venues and features a variety of competition types (all jammed into five days) can be. Come to think of it, Targa wasn’t a simple concept – it was an awesome concept! And this year, Targa’s back, with the first victims…er…drivers tackling Texas tracks in late April to early May.

Some history: SCCA hosted its first Targa in 2016 with the second coming in 2017. Targa’s dark age then arrived and no Targas were held…but now it’s back! Yippee!

We recently announced that three Targas would take place in 2025: Targa Texasland, Targa Southland (the OG Targa), and Texas Chicagoland. What this means is that Targa Texasland is first up, and it’s time to register.

What You Need to Know

Targa Texasland takes place April 30-May 4, 2025, with the first item on the agenda being registration. Even if you’re on the fence about this event, you’ll want to register on Feb 11, 2025, when registration opens at 3 p.m. CT, because while the event’s fun is unlimited, entry space isn’t.

The first thing you’ll notice is that registration in an SCCA Targa requires two drivers – that’s because you’ll need at least two drivers. Why? Thems the rules! But don’t worry, as Targas are structured so everyone scores ample seat time.

The second thing you’ll likely want to know is what tracks Targa Texasland will hit. Quick, to the schedule!

- April 30: MotorSport Ranch, Cresson, TX
- May 1: Harris Hill Raceway, San Marcos, TX
- May 2: G2 Motorsports Park, Anna, TX
- May 3: Eagles Canyon Raceway, Decatur, TX
- May 4: Eagles Canyon Raceway, Decatur, TX

The gist is this: Meet on Wednesday, April 30, for tech and registration at MotorSport Ranch in Cresson, TX, then hit the track for two practice sessions followed by a pair of three-lap flying runs. Your fastest lap time will be logged as your team’s first scored time.

Once MotorSport Ranch is in the bag, the group will head south toward San Marcos – that’s about a four hour trek (hehe) to Harris Hill Raceway, which will await competitors for another set of competition adventures on May 1. We would say this is a “rinse and repeat” of the prior day, but it ain’t, as this stop will also feature an autocross element prior to the normal practice and timed sessions.

Friday, May 2, Targa Texasland heads to Anna, TX, a quaint town just north of Dallas that’s home to the fantastic G2 Motorsports Park.

Not far from G2 is where the Targa Texasland adventure concludes, but its swan song comes in grand fashion at Eagles Canyon in Decator, TX, as it’ll be taking place alongside the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge. Targa Texasland teams will receive one entry into the Time Attack Challenge, although co-drivers are welcome (and encouraged) to snag an additional entry.

What Else?

How do I win?
Fastest runs from each competition along the way add together to score the winning teams.

Is there more to the competition than what we’ve told you?
Count on it. For instance, there could be bonus points for on-time arrival, social media posts, and fun team/car getups. And by “could” we mean “will.”

What will the car classes be?
Car classing will be based on the Time Trials rules, but combined and reduced to six total classes: Unlimited, Super Production 1 and 2, and Touring 1-3.

How many people are allowed on a team?
It takes at least two to tango in Targa, so each entry will need two drivers per car. How the track time is split, if at all, amongst those team members is completely up to you. If one person wants to do all the track time, while the other handles the transits, that’s fine! Or you can split it all 50/50 or any percentage in between. The choice is yours!

Are trailers allowed?
No. But yes. And by that we mean “sort of.” Here’s how it breaks down: You’re definitely not allowed to tow anything while participating in Targa Texasland, but teams will be allowed to drop their trailers and tow rigs at Eagles Canyon before the five-day adventure begins.

Sign Me Up!

Do Targa Texasland – you know you want to!

If you can’t make Targa Texasland, there are two more Targas to enter later this year. But for those who can be in Texas on April 30-May 4 for Targa Texasland, registration begins on Feb. 11, 2025, at 3 p.m. CT. The price is $1,150 and includes entry for two drivers (how you split the track time is up to you), including that final good time at the Time Attack Challenge. That’s five days, four racetracks, stunning track time, and a crazy-fun social experience in the paddock.
