Pro Tips for Flying High at the Fast-approaching Time Attack Challenge at Eagles Canyon

When it comes to the 2025 Tire Rack SCCA® Time Attack Challenge, all eight events are must-attends – the one that’s urgent right now, however, is the May 3-4 weekend at Eagles Canyon Raceway. Located on the outskirts of Decatur, TX (which, itself, is a stone’s throw from Fort Worth), Eagles Canyon is one of those racetracks that flies under the radar, offering challenges that put even the most experienced drivers to the test.

To challenge Time Attack Challenge drivers even more, this two-day event will see on-track action run both clockwise and counterclockwise, with your score being a cumulatively timed affair. We’ve got some pro tips for those who dare take on this, er, challenge.

We’ll get to that in a minute. Right now, you’ll want to click the link below to get registered.

Going Both Ways

Not all racetracks can be run in both directions, but Eagles Canyon can – and that’s what’s going to happen during this Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge event. Drivers will take to the 2.7-mile, 15-turn circuit on Saturday running counter-clockwise, then on Sunday the clockwise course configuration will welcome all competitors.

Drivers will experience one practice session and three competition sessions each day, with their overall score being the combination of their fastest lap turned each day.

In other words, drive fast Saturday, drive fast Sunday and, if all goes well, you’ll celebrate on the KONI Podium come Sunday afternoon.

Worried about your experience level slowing other people’s roll? Don’t be! Everyone will be grouped by experience level and gridded based on lap times following the practice session, so whether your wheeling skills match those of Max Verstappen or Lance Stroll, there’s a run group for you.

Pro Tips

There are several secrets to success for a fantastic Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge weekend, and for the May 3-4 weekend at Eagles Canyon, know that the first tip gets you to the track a day early.

The facility’s gates open at 3:30 p.m. Central Time on May 2, with event check-in and tech running from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Settling in early sets a solid foundation for every driver regardless of whether you’re shooting for a track record or a personal best.

For those who can’t make it to the track on Friday, Saturday morning sees check-in and tech jump into action at 6:45 a.m., with the novice briefing taking place at 7:30 a.m. The all-driver briefing kicks off at 7:45 a.m. Note that those driver meetings occur both Saturday and Sunday.

Knowing where you’re going on track is important, so each day at 8 a.m., pace laps will be hosted before Group 1 hits the course 20 minutes later.

Plenty of in-car videos can be found on YouTube for Eagles Canyon, so while you’ll want to check those out, you won’t want to skip the interactive track map Eagles Canyon has on its website breaking the circuit down turn by turn.

Then if you’re looking for a place to stay at night? Try camping on site!

This Time Attack Challenge weekend will be a special one because competitors in Targa Texasland will be wrapping up their week of competition at Eagles Canyon. They’ll be vying not only for top spots in Targa Texasland, but they’ll also be competing in the weekend’s Time Attack Challenge.
