Targa Southland Event Registration Opens: What You Need to Know

Prior to this year, SCCA® had hosted only two Targas, both named Targa Southland. Now, eight years after the last one, Targa Southland is back, baby, with registration about to open for the June 11-15, 2025, event that will pit drivers against the clock at four different venues over the course of five days.

What’s Targa, you ask? It’s the ultimate Time Attack and autocross adventure (with the potential of a RoadRally element) for street-driven cars where, for Targa Southland, teams will crisscross three states having the best time throwing down their best times at multiple tracks.

This year, we’re following Sherman’s March to the Sea (not really), beginning in the Atlanta area at Atlanta Motorsports Park and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta before crossing to North Carolina Center for Automotive Research and Carolina Motorsports Park.

Can’t make the June 11-15, 2025, Targa Southland? This year there are others to choose from.

CAN make Targa Southland? Here’s what you need to know by the time event registration opens on March 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. CT.

Tell Me More!

Targa Southland 2025 begins at Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville on June 11, where we recommend you start the week with a burger at the Dawsonville Pool Hall. It’s a classic case of “IYKYK,” and if you don’t, you’ll find out.

(Hint: For your GPS, the address is 9 Bill Elliott Street.)

From there, teams will road trip to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, former home of the SCCA National Championship Runoffs® for 20-plus years, the current home of Petit Le Mans, and one of the most iconic racetracks in the world.

Garysburg, NC, hosts the June 13 stop on the journey – the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR). The facility is exactly what it sounds like, and our research will be a study on who can go the quickest on the two-mile road course.

Not ready for the event to end? Good! Next, it’s off to Kershaw, SC, for Carolina Motorsports Park, where we’re doing two days on the local favorite as part of the 2025 Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge that’s also taking place that weekend.

Put another way:

  • June 11: Atlanta Motorsports Park, Dawsonville, GA
  • June 12: Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Braselton, GA
  • June 13: North Carolina Center for Automotive Research, Garysburg, NC
  • June 14-15: Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, SC

What’s the Format?

On an SCCA Targa, every day is an adventure.

At Road Atlanta, we’ll autocross in the pro pits before hitting the track. AMP, NCCAR, and CMP? Those days feature two 20-minute practice sessions for each team (yes, this event is designed for two drivers per car), followed by two sessions with three cumulative flying laps.

Your total time counts – Indy 500 qualifying style – so make sure you stay in it even if you botch a corner.

And There’s More!

The competition is not all lap-time based. From team themes or the best social media post of your car and teammates, to “meat ups” at barbecue joints to find the best Carolina barbecue, there will be lots of other ways to earn “points” toward your final score and have more interaction with other teams.

Stay tuned.

Most importantly, you’ll want to get registered before the slots are filled! Registration for the June 11-15, 2025, Targa Southland opens on March 14 at 1 p.m. CT – don’t miss out on this tour!
