Only two stops remain on the 2024 Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour schedule, with the penultimate weekend coming up May 31-June 2 at Watkins Glen International (WGI) in the western portion of New York. Situated at the southern tip of Seneca Lake, WGI is an epic track nestled in green, rolling hills – and it’s a locale on the bucket list of drivers and spectators alike.
The three-day Super Tour hosted by SCCA’s Finger Lakes Region is open to spectators, so grab a picnic basket and some lawn chairs, then get trackside to take in the action. An entry pass for the entire race weekend is just $32 per person, or $27 for Sunday-only admission. Kids 12-years old and younger are admitted free with an adult.
Those who can’t make it to WGI in person can still catch the wheel-to-wheel excitement online thanks to HST’s live broadcast produced by DriversEye Live and anchored by announcers Gregg Ginsberg and Larry MacLeod. Coverage is streamed via the SCCA Official YouTube channel and SCCA Facebook page. On Sunday, victory podium celebrations can be viewed at the SCCA Road Racing Facebook page.
As always, live Timing & Scoring will be found throughout the weekend at scca.com/live.
Stiff Competition
Numerous reigning SCCA National Championship Runoffs® winners will be at WGI to take on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn circuit – a layout that includes The Boot and Inner Loop. HST races at the legendary course are always exciting, and having champs in the mix ups the intensity.
One of those Champions is Daniel Richardson, who’s slated to drive the No. 22 Hoosier/AutoGear/ProSystems Brakes/Performance Auto Works/Gentium Technologies Chevrolet Camaro in the American Sedan® class. Graham Fuller is the current GT-Lite Champion, and he’ll be driving the No. 22 TRD/Goodyear/Carbotech/Ostar Motorsports Toyota Tercel against seven other GT-Lite entrants. Then there’s B-Spec National Champion Richard Hromin, who’ll be piloting the No. 1 RAT Sport/RP Performance/PAW/VCF/G-LOC Mini Cooper against at least four other B-Spec challengers.
The seven-entrant Formula Enterprises® 2 field is where you’ll find reigning National Champion Charles Russell Turner in the No. 32 Southeast Spec Racer/PCS SCCA Enterprises FE2 Mazda. And Todd Vanacore will be competing in Prototype 1 as the reigning class champ in the No. 19 Comprent/Halifax Plantation Elan DP02 car.
Turner and Vanacore are scheduled to pull double duty over the weekend as both are also entered in the 30-car Spec Racer® Ford Gen3 class, which is currently set to be the largest single field for the WGI weekend.
Tony Ave seems to be planning for an active weekend, too, at The Glen. In GT-3, where Ave is reigning National Champion, he’ll jump into the No. 44 Acura RSX. That same car is also entered in GT-2 competition, as Ave may toggle between classes to amass the required starts that will qualify him for the Runoffs GT-2 race. Lastly, Ave intends to slide into something completely different – that being the No. 44 Optech Swift 016 Mazda 2300 – for a go at Formula Atlantic® competition.
