ProSolo Action Returned to Las Vegas, and the Action Didn’t Disappoint

It’s the Las Vegas double down, where the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Series returned to Las Vegas, NV, on March 28-30, 2025, for the second weekend in a row in Sin City (here’s what happened the weekend prior). The second weekend was just as popular as the first – with action just as intense.

Yes, it was a new weekend, but it included the same best-in-the-business paddock with free hook-ups and 360-degree views of Las Vegas and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, all hosted by – you guessed it – Las Vegas Region. The second of two weekends featured outstanding Elliot Speidell designed courses.

We’ll note the outstanding class competition and highlight the Challenges, but the autocross paddock goes far beyond just the winners. For example…

Grant Mikesh and Kevin Blair were this week’s Howard Duncan Greenlight Scholarship winners, where the Greenlight fund assisted their entry into their first ProSolo competitions. Mikesh placed seventh in a very competitive B Street class, while Blair’s BMW was sent to the indexed Street 3 class for the weekend of fun.

Marceline Martin, meanwhile, was supported by SCCA Women on Track’s Driver Development program and received coaching by Andrew Redding. She improved throughout the weekend in Ladies Class 2 in her Mazda Miata. Nicole Wong, meanwhile, earned the Women on Track Pay It Forward award for the top-performing female driver and scored a free entry she can gift to a female driver from her Region or area who has never been to a National Solo event. Undoubtedly, Wong will be looking out for an Arizona-area driver worthy of the award.

Classy Competitors

If the pressure is on during last runs, no one told that to either Michael Yanase or Christopher Rosario in D Street. Both posted their best times on their final run on each side, with Yanase’s Honda Civic finishing in front of Rosario’s Hyundai Veloster by just 0.404sec.

The close competition continued in multiple classes, like when Nicole Wong drove a borrowed Camaro to a 0.164sec win over Christine Grice’s Mitsubishi Evo in Ladies Class 2. This continued a friendly rivalry that often sees the two decorated drivers at the pointy end of the time sheets.

That wasn’t even the closest of the Ladies Class wins, though. Kate Fisher’s last runs moved Fisher’s Scion FR-S to the top of Ladies Class 3, just 0.101sec ahead of Meredith Brown’s own FR-S.

Yet the closest battle of the weekend was between Jeff Kiesel in his KFR Turbo Sprite and the bone-stock Miata driven by Sean Velandia. The two were separated by just 0.050sec in Bump Class.

Challenge Chasers

If you were paying attention to the top half of the story, you already know: Nicole Wong was the top placing Ladies Class driver of the event. Wong swept the weekend with a class win and four-straight Challenge victories to take the Ladies Challenge, knocking off a Murderer’s Row of Laurie McCelvey, Kendra Mabie, Kate Fisher, and Kim Whitener to earn the points for Vegas II.

Blake Dewitt drew into the Bonus Challenge and made Sunday afternoon worth the wait, dropping Tom Kearns in the final to spray the Mazza sparkling wine.

Bruce Lukens qualified his DST-class winning Subaru BRZ for the bracket, and kept the momentum going for a Super Challenge win. Lukens opened with a win over the red-hot Velandia, then dispatched Justin Tsang in the semi-finals to go head-to-head with Alex Paraskevas. Lukens earned one more important victory, taking the title to wrap Vegas II.

It’s another weekend and another ProSolo – this time for those back east. Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts the Tire Rack SCCA Atlanta ProSolo April 4-6, opening a hot month of National Solo events.
