Hoosier Super Tour 2025 Opener Ahead at Sebring

It’s time to clear away the New Year’s Eve brain fog and get ready for another action-packed season of Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tours (HST). The 10-event calendar – which launches earlier than Formula 1, IMSA, IndyCar, and NASCAR Cup seasons – gets rolling in 2025 with a Jan. 10-12 visit to Sebring International Raceway hosted by SCCA’s Central Florida Region.

Part of the Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing program, the HST series features some of the most talented SCCA road racers taking on North America’s incredibly challenging circuits. Finishing positions earn points toward the prestigious HST Nationwide Points Championship each year, and participation serves as a gateway to the 2025 SCCA National Championship Runoffs®, taking place at Road America in the fall of 2025.

For the ninth consecutive year, the Super Tour opens its season on Sebring’s 3.7-mile circuit, which is one of the most historic road courses in the United States. The track, now 74 years old, is perhaps best known as home of the 12 Hours of Sebring. It has also hosted both Trans Am and World Endurance Championship races, as well as the 1959 Formula 1 season finale won by Bruce McLaren. Laid out on a World War II airfield, the heavy-duty concrete from that era remains in many sections and always serves as a challenge for both car and driver.

So it’s now time to load SCCA race cars into Bravo Trailers, insure everything through Hagerty for transport, make sure Hawk Brakes are in working order, and gas up with Sunoco race fuel. Before that, however, workers and drivers need to register for the event.

A Packed Party

The Sebring Super Tour weekend is always well attended. For drivers, this is one of the earliest opportunities to get back to another adrenaline-pumping year. Many other people also use Sebring as a perfectly good excuse to get out of snow and sleet harassing other parts of the country. Equally enticing is the fact that the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour® actually gets cranking a week earlier not too far away at Homestead-Miami Speedway, offering two consecutive weekends of top-notch SCCA competition with relatively minimal travel.

It's not uncommon to see some reigning champions on the Sebring entry list, and this year is no different. For starters, defending Spec Miata Runoffs Champion Ethan Goulart plans to be in Florida and fighting for victory in what will again be a large SM field filled with talent.

The reigning Super Touring® Lite Runoffs winner, Jose Osiris Pena, is on the Sebring entry list as well. Surely, this begins his quest to defend his championship in that class, but he’ll also be driving in the Super Touring Under field, too.

Then there’s Russell Turner, the reigning Spec Racer® Ford Gen3 (SRF3) Runoffs champion and SRF3 HST Points Champion, who will probably be running at the front of the large SRF3 field. He’s also the 2024 Formula Enterprises® 2 (FE2) HST Points Champ and will be taking part in FE2 races at Sebring as well.

Several current HST Points Champions will be at Sebring and looking to grab podium finishes that come with a bottle of Mazza sparkling wine. B-Spec’s Stewart Black is one of those drivers, as are GT-1’s Michael McAleenan and Touring 4’s Marc Cefalo.

Then there’s Sebastian Mateo Naranjo. The defending Formula F HST Points Champion is doing a little something different at Sebring. Instead of an open-cockpit, open-wheel race car, he’s signed up to be in the extremely competitive Spec MX-5 field.

HST Broadcast is Back

The HST online broadcast, produced by DriversEye Live, is back in 2025 so fans can enjoy the competition from anywhere around the globe. Commentators Gregg Ginsberg and Brian Bielanski are back as well, calling races and offering added insight.

The broadcast, which will see enhancements made to the graphics package throughout the year, offers coverage of qualifying and races each day. Tune in and catch all the action live from Sebring through SCCA’s YouTube and Road Racing Facebook pages. As a bonus, DriversEye Live will be testing equipment and preparing for the Super Tour season by broadcasting on-track action from Homestead-Miami Speedway during the Jan. 3-5, 2025, U.S. Majors Tour event there.

Of course, SCCA race weekends are always a blast to watch in person at the track. The Sebring event is open to spectators, with weekend tickets for sale only at Gate 3 on site.

Additional information about the Sebring Super Tour, including the entry list, live timing, and more can be found at the event webpage.
