Can you believe the year is already coming to a close? Before we pack up for the holidays, however, let’s take a moment to celebrate nearly 100 SCCA® members who have hit a membership anniversary milestone this month.
While we’re proud of everyone appearing on the list below, a few names need mentioning. For starters, Ozark Mountain Region member Sam Henry is celebrating 25 years as a member of the Sports Car Club of America. Henry is one of just a handful of Club members who have competed at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo® National Championships, the National Championship Runoffs®, and the RallyCross® National Championship all during the same year. In 2012, Henry competed in all three winner-take-all events, logging a sixth-place finish in D Prepared at the Solo Nationals, a second-place finish at the Runoffs in F Production, and a National Championship title in Prepared Rear at the RallyCross Nats.
Celebrating 30 years as an SCCA member is Philadelphia Region member Amy Aquilante. This year, Aquilante competed in her 12th Runoffs. While that’s quite an accomplishment, what’s even more remarkable is that she’s finished on the podium in her last four Runoffs appearances, earning three bronze medals and a silver.
An impressive four SCCA members are celebrating 60-year anniversaries this month, with those being Washington DC Region’s James R. Harrison, San Francisco Region’s Mary Lou Robson, Oklahoma Region’s Sandra Saucier, and Ohio Valley Region’s Charles W. Turner.
But holding the record as the longest standing member of the SCCA in December is Chicago Region’s Charles B. Hill III. To put this into perspective, 1959 – the year Hill joined the Club – was the same year that the Snell Foundation released its first crash helmet safety standards. In fact, it was in the December 1959 issue of SportsCar magazine where Dr. George Snively wrote an article detailing those exact testing procedures. Hill certainly joined the SCCA during a pivotal portion of its history and has witnessed a lot of advancement in motorsports during the last 65 years.
All of this is to say: Congratulations to all of this month’s members celebrating a Club anniversary.
