Mark your calendars and reserve those vacation days, the Tire Rack Solo National Tour and Tire Rack ProSolo schedules for 2022 have been posted! The National Tour program is packed with a dozen events from March to December, including a return to FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland; and ProSolo is back on track with 11 dates spanning March to August.
Not included in the above event counts are the 49th Tire Rack Solo Nationals Championship taking place September 6-9 at Lincoln Airpark in Nebraska, as well as the ProSolo Championship Finale September 2-4 at the same location.
The Schedules
As always, schedules are subject to change. But current calendars for SCCA National Tour and ProSolo events can be reviewed by clicking the expandable tabs below. New Name, Same Great Events
For 2022, the Championship Tour has been renamed the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour. Rick Myers, SCCA’s Director of Solo, said this was done to better describe what the series is all about and remove misnomers.
“We felt the term ‘Championship Tour’ created the perception that these events were only meant for top-end, championship-level drivers; and that is simply not the case,” Myers said. “We want people to know these events are open to all SCCA autocrossers, even the very newest of regional drivers. Absolutely everyone is welcome to come out and have fun at these professionally-operated events.”
National Tour events typically take place over two days with a different course each day, just like Solo Nationals. Drivers get three runs on each course with their best time from each added together for the final class results. Runs are timed to 1/1000th of a second, and knocking a cone down means a penalty of two seconds added to that time. National Tour events recognize the Solo classes found within the SCCA Solo Rulebook.
ProSolo Changes
Tire Rack ProSolo will see a few slight changes in the coming year. First, the ProSolo National Points Championship is back! Last seen in 2019, the National Points Championship returns in 2022 with the same scoring structure used previously, which can be reviewed in the ProSolo Rules section of SCCA’s Solo Rules webpage.
One major update for the 2022 ProSolo program centers on timing equipment. After difficulties experienced in 2021, SCCA National Solo Series Manager Brian Mason said the ProSolo Reset Team carefully combed through the system to diligently uncover “glitches.”
“Every deficiency and bug that we know of was found,” Mason said. “From there, work was done on both the hardware and software that manages the system. These weren’t patchwork repairs. We went through and reworked, rebuilt the system so improvements are permanent. The system has been tested and is ready to go for 2022.”
A unique, one-off event opens the 2022 ProSolo season in February at Florida International Rally & Motorsports Park in Starke, Florida. Due to space limitations, that event will be conducted in the ProSolo 1 format. There will still be “left” and “right” courses, but competitors will traverse the layouts one at a time. Everything else that makes ProSolo great remains the same, Christmas Tree start and all.
Another item of note for ProSolo in 2022 is a return to the fabulous concrete of Crows Landing in California, just on the other side of the Diablo Mountain Range from San Jose; then there’s the somewhat perpetual “last ProSolo” at Hampton Mills in Packwood, Washington — a property up for sale, but yet to be purchased. It should also be noted the National Tour visits Packwood the very next weekend in July after ProSolo.
