Tire Rack ProSolo Finale Showdown Set for Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (Aug. 28, 2014) – The 2014 ProSolo® season comes to a close this weekend with the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Finale, Aug. 30-31, at the Lincoln (Neb.) Airpark.

ProSolo is a combination of the best features of drag racing and autocross, with head-to-head elimination races against another driver on the opposite, mirrored course. The racers are signaled to start their run by a drag-race-style ‘Christmas Tree’ and the first driver to the finish wins the matchup.

The top 32 drivers from open class qualifying on Saturday and Sunday morning are seeded in a single-elimination Super Challenge bracket for Sunday afternoon, with the winner of each matchup continuing toward the bracket final. The Ladies Challenge is run similar to the Super Challenge with a maximum of 16 drivers, depending on the number of entrants among the three ladies classes.

Erik Strelnieks is the season-long Super Challenge Championship leader. His two best finishes in bracket competition equaled 85 points in the battle for the JCJ Cup. Strelnieks is on the hunt for his second JCJ Cup after taking home the Championship in 2005.

Greg McCance sits only four points behind Strelnieks in the standings, which counts the two best finishes plus the Lincoln finale in the championship. This season McCance has done one thing that Strelnieks has been unable to do - score a Super Challenge win. McCance was able to take home the bracket win in the second round at El Toro, while Strelnieks’ best finish was as runner-up at Mineral Wells.

Paul Russell is trying to improve on his career best second-place finish in the season-long standings from two years ago. Currently he sits third, having amassed 74 points. Behind Russell are a gaggle of other drivers that have a chance at taking the overall Championship home, including multi-time Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Champions Mark Madarash and Jeff Kiesel.

Annie Gill holds the top position in the fight for the Ladies Challenge Championship, the Fletcher Cup. With bracket wins at both Crows Landing and Packwood, Gill enters the competition with 109 points.

Kim Whitener sits second in the standings, only five points behind Gill. Whitener is the two-time defending Ladies Challenge Champion and can become the third driver to win three straight Ladies titles, joining Beth McClure-Strelnieks and Stacy Reitmeir.

Jocelin Huang is currently third with 103 points, following Ladies Challenge wins at Mineral Wells and Lincoln. Close behind Huang are Christine Grice, Shelly Monfort and Chris Peterson. The top six positions are covered by 15 points.

The Super Challenge and Ladies Challenge Championships will be decided, once and for all, at the Lincoln Airpark Aug. 30-31. Live results can be followed at http://sololive.scca.com/.
