Wendi Allen Scholarship Nominations Open Through Feb. 16

TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 9, 2014) – The Sports Car Club of America is now accepting nominations for the Wendi Allen Scholarship, a fund developed to give deserving female Soloists financial assistance to further their driving ambitions. Nominations should be submitted to Howard Duncan, at hduncan@scca.com, by Monday, Feb. 16.

Two deserving female Solo drivers will be selected by a committee of influential female Solo National Champions. This year’s selection committee is once again comprised of Denise Cashmore, Tara Johns, Beth McClure-Strelnieks, Shelly Monfort and Patty Tunnell.

The selection committee will deliberate and make their decision on the recipients during the week leading up to the SCCA National Convention, where the winners will be revealed to the public.

Winners of the award will be based on two basic criteria. First, the selected drivers will have displayed a certain level of success and skill behind the wheel. Both winners will also be very involved individuals in the Solo Community.

“We are pleased that, once again, we are able to support the efforts of two women drivers that want to improve their driving skills and be contributing members of the Club and the sport,” Howard Duncan, SCCA Vice President of Rally/Solo, said. “The SCCA Solo Community appreciates the Allen family for establishing this fund in honor of Wendi, and we hope that others also contribute to this effort and to other initiatives to get more women involved in Solo”.

The winners of this award will be eligible to receive $1,500 to support travel to National Solo events and the Solo National Championship throughout the year. In addition, SCCA will waive entry fees for the scholarship recipients to all National Solo events throughout 2015. The Club will also work with the Solo community and its commercial partners to seek out other forms of support for the winners, including driver training, mentoring, product and logistical assistance.
