Bill Chambres is one of the many SCCA members whose work throughout the years has been mostly behind the scenes, where no glamour was bestowed, and none sought. Chambers rose from SCCA flagger, to communicator, to steward, adding diversity as well as professionalism to each area of the program as he progressed, in both Club Racing and Professional Racing. In addition, he helped both individual regions and SCCA headquarters organize conventions, lending a level of expertise that quietly guided the conduct of many successful events. With a skilled hand and a level head, Chambres has, across time, exhibited the attitudes and attributes that mark the finest of SCCA officials, and his recognition by admission into the SCCA Hall of Fame honors his years of help and guidance to club leaders in many quiet, yet important ways.
