Track Night’s Looking for Enthusiastic Coaches, Which Means Track Night Wants You!

SCCA® Track Night in America® Driven by Tire Rack (TNiA) has been introducing newcomers to motorsports and having #funwithcars for a decade. The program provides a safe, sane, and fun way for practically anyone to get on track, no matter their level of experience. In fact, nearly 85,000 entrants have taken advantage of the opportunity over the last 10 years.

But…

…TNiA has done more than just put everyday drivers on more than four dozen different tracks around the country, it also introduced a slew of SCCA members to the concept of being involved outside of cars, lending support as coaches or organizers at the nearly 1,300 events executed to date. Kyle Bolden is one such member who has been involved both inside as a driver and outside the car as a TNiA Coach.

More on Kyle in a minute, but for now, know that TNiA is currently looking for help to support its slate of events in 2025. As part of the Track Night crew, your job will be to facilitate fun through enthusiasm and education.

Needed for the season are event leads, coaches, administrative support, photographers, and more. Many of these positions include compensation, but the real reward is putting excited drivers on racetracks.

Coaching Case Study: Kyle Bolden

What does 30-year-old Kyle Bolden enjoy most about being a TNiA coach? “Seeing people develop over the course of sessions and just having fun.”

Bolden, who first joined the Club in 2015 and is a member of SCCA’s New England Region, got involved in motorsports as a result of his father road racing a Mazda RX-7. Kyle then got into autocrossing and was a TNiA participant before taking advantage of SCCA’s Race Experience platform to get involved in wheel-to-wheel competition. After earning his competition license in 2023, he entered races piloting a Touring 3 Mazda RX-8 and has also participated in Time Trials events.

(From autocross to Time Trials to SCCA Road Racing (above), Kyle Bolden knows the joy of performance driving. He passes that drive forward through being a Track Night coach.)

Serving as a TNiA coach turns out to be a fantastic outlet for Kyle’s passion. The track is where he likes to be, and TNiA sessions give him a chance to hang out with friends and enjoy both camaraderie and the automotive enthusiast community.

“I like helping people,” he says. “I spend a lot of time helping people with car setup. I’ll walk around the paddock helping people with tire pressures, alignment, and driving styles.”

For those completely new to track driving, Kyle suggests they arrive at TNiA with the pure intention of having a blast and learning about car control. More seasoned participants being coached by Kyle get different advice depending on an individual’s goals. That may include dissecting a portion of a circuit to further develop driving technique, or adjusting car setups one variable at a time to discover how a single adjustment impacts car handling on course.

According to Justin Barbry, Manager of SCCA’s Track Night in America, Kyle’s upbeat attitude and willingness to help makes him a valued addition to TNiA events in the Northeast.

“His enthusiasm rubs off on the participants,” Barbry says. “Having a background in wheel-to-wheel racing and then finding a passion for helping others get on track through Track Night is a great way to give back to the Club.”

If you’ve got some track experience, have a great attitude, and love #funwithcars, consider joining the TNiA team in 2025 – we’re always looking for great people.
