Winning championships is a consistent habit for Patrick Woods-Toth, who claimed the 2022 Ron Fellows Karting Championship, then the 2023 SCCA Pro Racing-sanctioned Formula 4 United States Championship, and now the 2024 SCCA Pro Racing-sanctioned Formula Regional Americas Championship. However, the young driver from Saint-Lazare, Quebec, is just getting started.
"Traveling from Quebec to each race is long and tiring," he admitted, "but it's an unavoidable part of racing. It's also one of the best parts about racing; being able to travel and visit many new and exciting places."
The Formula Regional Americas championship season comprises 19 races spread over seven event weekends. The series is a tour of legendary tracks, stopping at NOLA, Road America, Indianapolis, Mid-Ohio, New Jersey, Ontario, and COTA. In 2024, for the first time in several years, the series went north to Canada to race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. There, Woods-Toth swept the event, winning all three races.
"It was so cool to have a race at CTMP, my home away from home," Woods-Toth said. "The rest of our season wasn't easy, but we stayed consistent and fought hard. All season we had wins and podiums, but the turning point for me was in New Jersey. I managed to both qualify on pole and crash in the same session! I had to mentally reset and reflect a lot, and I turned the season around right away. From there, we ended up winning the last race at NJMP and my last three races at CTMP."
Woods-Toth's team, Crosslink Kiwi Motorsports, had a banner year, winning the top four positions in the FR Driver Championship.
"It has been a great two years with Crosslink Kiwi Motorsports, winning both the F4 U.S. and FR Americas Championships back-to-back,” Woods-Toth aid. “We have had nothing but positive experiences together. I am so grateful and happy for the opportunity to race [in 2024]. Winning the championship was just the cherry on top.
“I have many people behind me who have supported, guided, and of course, funded my journey. My biggest supporters are Ron Fellows and his wife Lynda. They have done tremendous work behind the scenes to get me on track. I would really like to thank Mr. Fidani from Orlando Corporation, who has put great faith in us, as well as Marcel Demers and Bob Page, who have been a huge part of this journey."
In the ladder system that leads to the highest levels of professional open wheel racing, winning a championship is almost a necessity to get a seat in the next series up the ladder.
"I look forward to the doors that have opened for the future," Woods-Toth said. "The obvious choice for the 2025 season is to continue chasing the single-seater dream, ideally in FIA F3 or FIA F2. If not that, there is always the possibility of Indy NXT in the U.S."
Nothing is ever certain in a racing career, but this young driver is definitely bringing a resume to his next challenge.
"Only time will tell," he said, "We are actively looking for the best opportunity that will allow us to succeed."
