On Course for Adventure: Welcome to Lincoln

By Visit Lincoln

Each year, the roar of high-performance engines and the excitement of motorsport enthusiasts ignite a sense of exhilaration across the Lincoln community as Sports Car Club of America® (SCCA) autocross events roll into town.

As the honored host city, Lincoln has become synonymous with these thrilling competitions and is excited to welcome both fans and competitors to the vibrant community once again. SCCA events are a highlight on the annual calendar, blending the thrill of motorsports with the warm hospitality that Lincoln is known for.

“Lincoln Airpark is a one-of-one autocross site in a one-of-one autocross city,” said Heyward Wagner, SCCA’s Vice President of Rally/Solo and Experiential Programs. “There are 100 acres of concrete surrounded by a city that can accommodate 150,000 people for football weekends. That gives SCCA access to the best venue and the best infrastructure in the country.”

As things get geared up for another exciting season of motorsports, Lincoln is eager to welcome visitors from near and far to discover all the city has to offer. Whether you are here to compete, cheer on your favorite drivers, or simply soak in the excitement of the events, the hope is you will also take time to explore the many wonderful things that make Lincoln a truly unique destination.

A Revved-Up Economy

SCCA events are not just a spectacle of speed and skill. They also provide a significant economic boost to the community. With an impact of approximately $3 million annually, the incredible events draw thousands of visitors to fill hotels, dine in restaurants, and support local attractions and businesses around town.

It was 2009 when Solo Nats first came to Lincoln, and the community is again thrilled to serve as the host city in 2024 for the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo® Championship Finale from Aug. 30-Sept. 1, followed by the SCCA CAM/XS/Club Spec Invitational Shootout on Aug. 31 and the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships from Sept. 3-6. Combined, these events will bring nearly 1,700 entries to Lincoln for this incredible showcase of automotive excellence.

Beyond Solo Nats

While SCCA events are your main attraction, Visit Lincoln also invites all guests to take some time to explore the beautiful city and discover the incredible attractions that make Lincoln a fantastic destination. From award-winning museums to exceptional cuisine, you will fall in love with everything Lincoln has to offer. And, while you could spend days exploring Lincoln, we know your time is limited and have curated a list of a few recommended must-sees while you are here:

Museum of American Speed – As an automotive enthusiast, you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to visit the Museum of American Speed. Located just minutes from Lincoln Airpark (which is host to the ProSolo Finale, Invitational Shootout, and Solo Nats), this world-class museum was named the Best Attraction for Car Lovers by USA Today and showcases an extensive collection of vintage race cars, classic hotrods, and rare automotive memorabilia. With its 90,000 square foot expansion recently completed, the museum now highlights cars from the Darryl Starbid Rod & Custom Hall of Fame Museum, race vehicles from the Herzog Motorsports Collection and collector cars from Eric Zausner’s E.Z. Spindizzy Foundation, as well as elevated exhibits for NASCAR, the Sports Car Club of America Hall of Fame, factory GM displays, and so much more.

Lincoln’s Craft Beer Scene – There is nothing quite like enjoying a good beer in a great place, and Lincoln’s local craft beer scene will not disappoint. Wrap up an exciting day of competition by sampling some unique craft beers at popular local breweries. Just a short drive from Lincoln Airpark, you will find Kinkaider Brewing Company, known for its bold, innovative flavors, and Boiler Brewing Company, offering unique, small-batch creations with a cozy, underground vibe. If you are looking for a great bite paired with your cold brew, be sure to visit the new Zipline Tap and Grill in Fallbrook or Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill in the Historic Haymarket district. Each spot offers the perfect location for unwinding after the day at the races, while giving you a true taste of Lincoln’s local flavor.

Historic Haymarket District – For a perfect blend of rich history and modern energy, spend some time in the charming Historic Haymarket district. A popular destination for locals and visitors alike, the Historic Haymarket’s brick streets are lined with unique buildings offering culinary options from across the globe, unique cocktail bars and eclectic local shops. Grab a cup of joe to go at The Mill Coffee and Tea before heading back to Lincoln Airpark, or take a break from the action for a relaxing lunch at Fleetwood. After your final runs, recap the excitement of the day over a delicious meal at The Oven or a German-inspired lager at Bierhaus Maisschäler. Whether you are seeking a sense of calm after the event or an opportunity to continue the energy of the day, make sure a trip to the Historic Haymarket is part of your plan.
