A lot has happened in the last year in the Club Spec world. You’ve read the announcements and undoubtedly daydreamed about testing the waters. Now it’s time to stop sitting on the sidelines – and you can do it for free.
From the concept’s announcement in mid-2023 to seeing tires on the road half a year later, Club Spec’s ascension to SCCA® Solo® and Time Trials competition has been swift. While numerous Club Spec Mustangs (CSM) and Club Spec MX-5s (CSX) have already been put into action at events, we appreciate the fact that building for a new class is far from an insignificant commitment. Fortunately, there’s a way to test out Club Spec with zero obligation, and it’s coming up at the 2024 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, those at Lincoln Airpark in Lincoln, NE, that are considering building a Club Spec car are encouraged to take a seat (behind the wheel!) during the Club Spec Demo Day. There, an S197 Ford Mustang and NC Mazda MX-5 will be on-site, fully equipped with all of the Club Spec go-fast goodies, ready for you to test out.
Starting at 9 a.m. at the Test-n-Tune pad, several Club Spec drivers will have their cars on site for potential future Club Spec drivers to take for a run or two. There will also be representatives from Mazda Motorsports, Goodyear, Falken, and Strano Parts answering questions, discussing products, and ready to chat about the class.
“Club Spec is a big part of SCCA in 2025 and beyond, and this is a great way for prospective participants to experience the cars and learn about the future of the program,” says SCCA Vice President of Solo Heyward Wagner. “It’s a huge testament to the Club Spec community that members are willing to offer up their cars for others to test drive on the Test-n-Tune course – this truly showcases the welcoming atmosphere within the Club Spec community.”
No preregistration is required – simply wander over to the Test-n-Tune course on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at 9 a.m. and check out the Club Spec cars. Before long, you’ll be hitting the autocross course – shortly after that, we have no doubt that you’ll be off the sidelines and shopping for a Club Spec car of your own.
Between now and the Solo Nats, familiarize yourself with the classes:
