Every now and then, a unique sweepstakes opportunity arises that not only sparks interest for the prize at hand, but due to popular demand, a second sweepstakes – building upon the original – is born. That’s exactly what happened when SCCA Foundation and SCCA Women on Track announced their sweepstakes for a special gold SCCA® wire wheel pendant. That sweepstakes raised money for SCCA Women on Track’s initiatives, but also brought to light the need for a second sweepstakes, this time for a silver SCCA wire wheel pendant.
Gold Pendant Winner
The original sweepstakes kicked off in early 2024, with an entry deadline of March 18. The drawing that took place eight days later saw Washington DC Region member Katherine Lindsey quite literally take the gold. “This is amazing,” exclaimed Lindsey. “I will do my best to represent the Women on Track program and will wear this pendant proudly with enthusiasm and inspiration.”
That pendant was crafted and donated by longtime SCCA members Tere and Larry Pulliam, and was 2mm of 14-karat solid gold weighing approximately 7.1 grams. The estimated retail price of the pendant stood at $2,000.
“I’ve been a member of the SCCA and have competed in Solo, RallyCross, HillClimbs, and Time Trials, worked Timing & Scoring, Pit & Grid, and Registration, and I’ve served as RE of Atlanta Region for six years, Area 12 Director for six years, and I’m now in my fourth year on the SCCA Foundation Board as liaison to the SCCA Women on Track program,” Tere Pulliam said at the time the original sweepstakes was launched. “I have a passion for seeing and promoting women to get involved in whatever area of the Club that piques their interest.”
A Silver Opportunity
Based on popular demand, a second pendant sweepstakes is now underway, but this time the grand prize is a 2mm pendant made of 925 sterling silver weighing approximately six grams. The estimated value of this custom piece of jewelry is $1,000.
Once again, the pendant was created and generously donated to the SCCA Foundation by Tere and Larry Pulliam. Larry is a bench jeweler and retired in 2018 after 50 years in the family's wholesale jewelry business. Larry had always wanted to craft a piece of SCCA jewelry and after retiring, he had time for that pursuit.
This pendant, approved by the National SCCA Board of Directors, not only honors the Club’s 80-year history as represented by its most iconic logo, but also provides a beautiful way to display the wearer's passion for the Club.
All of the proceeds from this sweepstakes will go to support the SCCA Women on Track program. This program facilitates participation by women in all aspects of the Club's programs from driving to event administration and leadership. Every year, SCCA Foundation and SCCA Women on Track fund scholarships to facilitate women's participation in autocross, road racing as drivers and workers, RoadRally, Time Trials, and RallyCross. The program provides further support through mentorships and other programs.
