The 2023 SCCA National Convention was held virtually for the third straight year, continuing to redefine an SCCA tradition that kicked off in December 1944. Back then, an enthusiastic seven Club members showed up for a one-day gathering at SCCA’s first Annual Meeting in Boston; this year, that number ballooned to nearly 900 registrants for the Jan. 19-27, 2023, Convention, with the event streaming more than 70 sessions to your computer, phone, or tablet.
2023 SCCA National Convention sessions included everything from the Annual Meeting and award ceremonies to town halls, keynote speakers, how-tos, office hours, and so much more. While it was technically possible to attend every single session live over those eight days, doing so was unnecessary since the sessions were recorded and are now available for viewing on demand using the my.scca.com account portal.
Engage Again: On Demand
The theme for this year’s National Convention was “Engage,” and whether you missed a session or you’re looking to learn more from those you caught live, 2023 SCCA National Convention sessions are available to engage once more with on-demand viewing via your Member Account Portal (MAP). Once logged in, select the “My Learning” tab and choose the “National Convention” link to enjoy this year's Annual Meeting and Convention sessions that are organized into a conveniently packaged YouTube playlist.
You’ll discover that many of the sessions from the previous two virtual SCCA National Conventions are also available for on-demand viewing on MAP. Much of that information is still applicable, so poke around!
What to Watch
There was so much to take in live during the 2023 SCCA National Convention, that seeing it all laid out for on-demand viewing can be overwhelming. So where should you start?
You’ll want to select the hour-long Annual Meeting and then the Convention Kick Off. From there, you can either dive into the various award ceremonies, or choose to view the program direction sessions and town halls that apply to your interests. Other gems this year included a session on the roles and responsibilities of the National Board of Directors, sponsorship tips and tricks, and sessions hosted by SCCA Women on Track and the SCCA Foundation. There were also keynote sessions including a roundtable discussion between IMSA President John Doonan and SCCA’s Vice President of Road Racing Eric Prill, a session with Goodwood expert Harry Sherrard, and a chat with SCCA and F1 steward extraordinaire Dennis Dean.
Back to the award ceremonies, there were a bundle to take in. You can watch them on-demand through your MAP login, or read all about them here:
- Road Racing Awards
- SCCA Hall of Fame, Member of Excellence, and Woolf Barnato Awards
- Solo, RallyCross, and RoadRally Awards
- Region Achievement Awards
Winners and Stats
When registration opened for the 2023 virtual SCCA National Convention in December, we said that one lucky registrant would receive a trip to SCCA’s equally virtual Prize Closet. To qualify, all a member needed to do was register for the Convention, and then attend at least one session. The winner of that contest was Mohawk Hudson Region’s Jim Bucci, who won a pop-up canopy tent courtesy of Summit Racing Equipment. Chris Perry from Chicago Region, meanwhile, won a YETI Cooler courtesy of Tige Boats, thanks to his success at the top of the National Convention’s Leader Board on the Whova app.
