Longtime editor of SportsCar magazine and SCCA National Champion Philip Royle is joining the Sports Car Club of America’s staff as Senior Content Manager. This hire continues the evolution and growth of SCCA’s marketing team.
“I’m beyond excited,” said Kristen Poole, Director of Marketing and Communications. “Philip is an exceptional addition to SCCA staff. His extensive background and knowledge of the Club — through his time at SportsCar and as a member — make him the absolute perfect fit for our maturing marketing team. I can’t wait to see what comes next.”
Although Royle has been an SCCA member since 2005, his connection with the Club began in 1997 through autocross with the Texas Region. Now a Cal Club Region member, Royle’s participation has spanned SCCA Autocross, RallyCross, RoadRally, Road Racing, Track Events, Time Trials, and volunteering with Emergency Services. Royle also currently serves as the secretary on Cal Club Region’s Board of Governors. In addition, Royle earned an SCCA National Championship title during the 2015 National Championship Runoffs at Daytona International Speedway while racing in Touring 4.
Professionally, Royle has helped produce 197 issues of SportsCar, SCCA’s official member magazine published by Racer Media & Marketing. As editor for 175 of those issues, Royle has overseen numerous magazine redesigns, helping shape SportsCar into its current iteration as a member-first publication focused on the accomplishments of individuals and SCCA Regions. Beyond SportsCar, he recently led the editorial team that produced SCCA’s new member guide, a marketing tool developed to reduce barriers to participation and volunteering.
Prior to his work at SportsCar, Royle served as Executive Editor for the company that is now the MotorTrend Group. There, his writing and photography appeared in magazines such as eurotuner, Super Street, Sport Compact Car, and several domestic automotive publications.
In his role as SCCA’s Senior Content Manager, Royle will help develop strategy and oversee the development of SCCA’s written and multimedia content, with a focus on enhancing the content and message cohesion across all channels.
“It has been an absolute honor to continue the legacy of SportsCar magazine as its editor – a task I never took lightly,” Royle said. “At the same time, I’m eager to join SCCA’s marketing team, where exciting new opportunities await in the evolving world of motorsports. Through the years, I’ve worked closely with SCCA’s fantastic staff, and I’m honored to join their ranks to help continue the growth of the amazing organization that has meant so much to me for the last 25 years.”
