SCCA Foundation Provides Grant for HillClimb Series

A year ago, the East Tennessee, Blue Ridge and Central Carolinas Regions combined to form the SCCA Appalachian Hill Climb organization and hosted the first event, a sold-out HillClimb at Pine Mountain Resort Park in Pineville, Kentucky.

The success of that event has led to a plan for other events in the areas, capitalizing on the joint effort of the three Regions playing to their individual strengths.

That effort didn’t go unnoticed, specifically by members of the SCCA Foundation. The Foundation, SCCA’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, generously funds programs like the SCCA Archives, Tire Rack Street Survival and various veteran-based and women in motorsports-based programs. The SCCA Foundation also funds programs to help local events thrive – events like the ones the Appalachian Hill Climb organization puts on.

So, a grant from the Foundation was a natural fit when Appalachian Hill Climb needed to purchase barriers to help host their HillClimbs. With that in mind, the SCCA Foundation has provided a $3500 grant to the group to keep the successful HillClimb events rolling right along.

“The Appalachian Hill Climb organization displays all of the qualities and core values of the SCCA,” Arnie Coleman, SCCA Foundation Executive Director, said. “They work closely with their neighbors and promote motorsports in a safe, fun way. The SCCA Foundation board all agreed that they had proven the concept, and so we wanted to offer the grant to boost their HillClimb efforts.”

The SCCA Appalachian Hill Climb returns to Pine Mountain Resort Park April 22-24, the Dragon HillClimb July 30-31, and a third event yet to be announced. Each event takes place with not only the support of the Appalachian HillClimb organization and its regions, and the grant from the SCCA Foundation, but also with support from Summit Racing.
