The SCCA office has a trio of new faces joining the team, and while the general membership may not directly interact with all of them, we all want to welcome them to #FunWithCars!
Abby Scher is serving as Region Communication & Convention Lead in the Member & Region Services Department under Chris Robbins. Her main focus is to develop, coordinate and implement communication and events to enhance the SCCA member and volunteer leader experience. Within that, her main focus remains on planning and preparing for the upcoming SCCA National Convention, both in 2022’s virtual world and in making arrangements for the return to Las Vegas in 2023.
Scher joined SCCA in 2008, and while she has mainly competed in SCCA’s autocross program, she also has a Formula F road racing car in her garage. She has also been spotted holding a flag near her home in the Southeast Division during road races.
Her career background includes event planning, event hospitality and marketing. Scher will continue to work from her home as an independent contractor.
“I am most excited about the opportunity to be a part of a team that strives for greatness,” Scher said. “They want you to be successful and provide you with all the tools and support you need to do it! My main focus right now has been planning and preparing for the SCCA National Convention, but I have also been working to keep all the regions up to date on SCCA news, training opportunities, and 2022 Convention plans.”
Amanda Davis is SCCA’s newest member of the Accounting Department, serving as the accounting specialist. While new to the sports car racing industry, Davis has accounting and human resources experience from her previous jobs at a Topeka Chevrolet dealership and a small construction firm.
Davis works with Phyllis Wells, Manager of Accounting & Human Resources, on accounts payable and other accounting-related tasks.
Rachel Smelter is the newest face in SCCA’s Sanctioning Department. Learning the ropes from Assistant Manager, Administration Jamie Mullin, Smelter will help Regions complete sanction and insurance requests and post-event audit and event paperwork to keep all events on (and off!) track.
“In just the short time they’ve been here, Abby, Amanda and Rachel have all been tremendous assets to our team,” SCCA President and CEO Mike Cobb said. “Each of them have brought enthusiasm for both learning their new positions, a new industry for Amanda and Rachel, and the service for our members that we have come to expect from our SCCA staff members.”
