A recent RoadandTrack.com story titled “Club Racing with the SCCA Is Alive and Well”, written by Jack Baruth, also contains the sub-headline “The SCCA has a reputation for being unwelcoming in some circles, but that couldn't be further from the truth.”
Whether the first part of that sub-headline is a fair assessment of our Club in general, we know that perception is out there. And with 67,000 members, we’re sure there are some folks that have done some things at some time that don’t help overcome that image. But as most of us know, our Club has a lot, I mean A LOT, of helpful, fun, wonderful and nice people. And the Road & Track author ran into one of those people, which resulted in this very positive article.
Please, take a moment and read the story. And realize it only took one person doing one little nice deed to totally debunk a stereotype. Also, keep in mind that, to quote Frank Burns form the TV show M*A*S*H, “It’s nice to be nice … to the nice.”
If you know a standout member of the SCCA who has done nice things, go ahead and give them a “shout out” in the comments section below.
