2016 Tire Rack Blytheville Pro: Event Recap

Event Results

Sunrise on Sunday greeted participants with milder temperatures which was quite welcome after the oppressive heat and humidity day one of the event. Morning activity in paddock was not as frenzied as noted in the past which one could attribute to the better longevity of the very popular Bridgestone street tires.

Group one featured some exceptional driving in all three Ladies classes. The class winner in L1 was decided on Laurie Hyman’s last run as she was the only driver in the Ladies classes to break into the 40's. The class winners in L2 and L3, Jordan Towns and Laura Campbell, respectively, would ultimately meet in the Ladies Challenge for a very exciting match-up.

STR competition in Group 2 had Jed Peterson and Kerry Coughlin battling for the lead both days. Ultimately Peterson would take the class win by only .523. David Marcus and Darrin DiSimo were also in close competition in STX with Marcus taking the top spot by .633 total.

STS class continued with small margins established on Saturday with Ron Williams, Mark McKnight, Sean Greer and Gerald Terranova taking the four class trophies and top overall event PAX respectively.

Group 3 was highlighted by outstanding Street class competition. In AS, David Entz was able to defend his Saturday class lead against his co-driver Justin Batten and Thomas Lackey. Brian Johns advanced over Tom DeYoung to second place in BS, but didn’t have enough to bump Vivek Goel from the top trophy position. Daniel McCelvey improved his times in CS for the win with the four trophy spots unchanged from Saturday.

The last group of class competition was notable for it's race tire cars with Eric Hyman taking the win in SM class with his Nissan GT-R and Troy Acosta surpassing his co-driver Erik Strelnieks in the F Prepared Porsche Boxster in Race Tire 2 class. By the finish of regular competition the clouds had broken up and the temperatures were again rising.

After a short break, it was time for Ladies, Bonus and Super Challenge competition. In the Ladies challenge, it was a repeat from the Wilmington Pro Solo just one week prior - Jordan Towns competing against Laura Campbell. Towns prevailed with her best run of the event; a 42.182 for the win. The Bonus Challenge proved that even a Pro Solo newby can win, with David Robinson taking the win in his ES Miata. The final runs of the the event showcased Eric Hyman slotted against Eric Strelnieks. Hyman stole the top honor with a blistering 39.024 run.

The 2016 Tire Rack Blythevile ProSolo event was flawless in execution by the supporting regions and SCCA staff. Congratulations to all the class and challenge winners!
