As expected, the Chris Mayfield designed Colorado Championship Tour courses are fast and technical. The Saturday course made great use of the available area and natural features found on the Pikes Peak International Raceway VIP lot.
If you like underdog stories, look no further than E street. Paul Brown has pretty much owned this class since he prepared the Spyder for Solo competition last year. However, the fast Mayfield course and thin Colorado air seems to be rewarding the turbo MX-5 of the local talents Jonathan Kuo and Brain Kelly. There is no doubt that Brown will dig deep into his bag of tricks in a bid to move up from 3rd place on Sunday.
While there were numerous close head-to-head battles to be found in Colorado on Saturday, the top five in C Street are all within seven tenths of a second from the top spot. We have all of the regular C Street suspects, ND Miata, RX-8 and FR-S, but its too close to call going into Sunday's competition.
However, the big story in Colorado, after day one, is that Robert Thorne is holding down top PAX for the event in the borrowed Street Modified, 3R Racing, Zebulon MSC, BMW M3 of Chris Mayfield, on a Super Street Modified Index. And according to Mayfield, the giant Hoosier tires on the car now have over 100 runs.
