The SCCA is introducing an exciting and convenient new way for the Solo Events Board and their Advisory Committees to communicate with the membership at large: the Solo Town Hall - for the first time - is going to be held on the internets, and projected into your household through a series of tubes. If you've ever been to Nationals and wondering what all those people under the tent on Monday were arguing about, now is your chance to participate - from the comfort of your own home!
The intent of doing it this way is to reach out to a larger base of the membership. Previously, Town Halls had only been held at Nationals and the National Convention, but this often could create conflicts for those who had other responsibilities during those events, or those who were unable to attend them at all. This is also intended to get input from regional competitors rather than just national competitors.
The two primary subjects already on the agenda include video evidence (when/where/how can it be used to determine a penalty) and a general update from the National office on participation, new timing systems, etc. Over the next few weeks, the SEB and ACs would also like to begin collecting questions and ideas for topics from the general membership that can be answered / addressed / discussed during the Town Hall. These topics can be whatever members deem to be pertinent to discuss, including:
- Street Tires
- How port-installed lug nuts have ruined every class ever
- Annual fuel costs for the SEB’s black helicopters
- Street tires
- OMG SOLOLIVE IS DOWN AGAIN
You will be able to submit your questions when registering for the Town Hall. Alternatively, you can submit questions to Doug Gill, Solo Competition Manager, at dgill@scca.com and put "Town Hall Question" in the subject line. These will obviously be moderated in the respect of time available.
The software has the capability of handling large amount of folks, and due to this, there will be certain protocols established for dialogue closer to the date of the Town Hall. By default, all normal participants will be muted and in listen mode, until cleared by the panel. There will also be capabilities for "handouts" to be attached to the meeting (such as an agenda), and built-in chat functions.
Here are the details:
- When -- Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 @ 9:00pm EST
- How -- Citrix GoToWebinar meeting. Registration Here.
- Access from your PC/Mac/iOS/Android using app, or even call in by phone (with reduced functionality)
- Who -- Every Solo competitor that wants to call in.
Depending on the result of this meeting, it's possible that this format will be rolled out more regularly in the future.
Stay tuned in to Solomatters over the next week for additional updates on this event!
