Saturday competition at the Packwood Pro once again displayed some of the best weather an autocrosser could ask for. 90 degree temps and not a cloud in the sky kept the pavement warm and the grip ever increasing. So much so that when the left side start rubbered in, we started seeing a lot of red lights due to the unexpected grip. But if the worse thing you have to complain about is that the grip was too high, it’s probably a good day of autocross.
Day 1 is once again the Coleman and Spyksma show in STX. The two co-drivers switched from the Coleman’s Subaru BRZ that they ran at the Tour, to the Spyksma’s 2015 WRX to take advantage of it’s hard launching abilities. For a second weekend in a row the two co-drivers are trading positions almost every time they run. Last weekend we saw a day 1 lead by Spyksma of a narrow .024. At the end of Saturday runs this weekend it was Coleman who leads by a slim .124 seconds. As always, don’t count out the 3rd place driver Chris Thorpe who has been making that Golf R work around these fast course. He is just .520 out of 2nd place with people almost always finding time on Sunday.
Another close battle on street tires, A-Street is once again "Corvette Stock" with Ryan Otis taking a .291 second lead into Sunday over East coast fly-in and G-Fab Racing driver Grant Reeve. As you will remember, Otis was top PAX last weekend at the Tour. Glen Hernandez is currently without a clean left side run. If he does clean up, look for him to join those two at the top of the standing.
If anyone thought this Mike Brausen designed course was a AWD course, David de Regt is looking to prove them wrong. Finishing morning runs he had the lead by 8/10 over Eric Hyman in the “I eat ProSolo launches” GTR. Hyman sorted his driving out in the afternoon where the two traded tenths on every run. At the end of Saturday afternoon it was de Regt holding onto just .236 seconds left of his earlier lead. Final runs will decide this one Sunday. Can Eric Hyman find more space to put down that now 900whp? We will see.
Tune into the action now live on UStream and SoloLive to see how these tight battles will finish in beautiful Packwood Washington.
