Here it is ladies and gentleman, our last West coast back to back event pairing. What better to go with your wine and cheese than some autocross with a view of Mt Rainier in the background. Hosted by the North West region and course by Roger "I'll have another scotch" Johnson, this is a Solo vacation you're not bound to forget.
First off, if you’re not already planning on going, call the boss and tell him you won’t be in! Don't have a car there? Neither do I! Arrive and drive is a beautiful thing. Washington is known for some great people willing to lend a seat to anyone. If you have always wanted to go, there is likely a class that would welcome another driver. Contact one of the local friendly NW region drivers for assistance and get your butt out there.
If that's not enough, the view alone is worth the trip. The Packwood site gives you a beautiful view of rolling hills and white capped mountains. Located between Mount Rainier National Park to the north and Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument to the south, this town of 1330 people welcomes us every year with open arms. If you are flying into Seattle, the drive gets even better. Take the scenic route down Hwy 410 and 123 to site and you will be treated to beautiful landscape laden with trees. This may very well be the best and most enjoyable AM drive to an autocross you ever have. Click the link below for a view from the road:
It gets stated every year, but INDOOR PARKING! How much better can it get? Tech inside was one of the few good things about Heartland Park, here you can do everything short of running the course inside. Tech inside, then move over to your paddock spot inside, then push your car (can you tell I’m a Prepared driver?) over to your grid spot. Stay out of the elements, avoid the sunburn (can you get that this far North?), and enjoy the company of some great competitors in style like your favorite F1 driver (minus the private jet and millions of dollars). It's like nowhere else.
If you time it right, you can make this into the ultimate autocross vacation. With the Packwood Prosolo the following weekend, you can spend 11+ days in the area enjoying all the North West has to offer. Seattle is just a quick 2.5 hours North after you’re done autocrossing for a week of fun in between events. Check out Pike Place Fish Market famous for throwing your purchase half way across the room. Or get a large scale view from the Seattle Space Needle that has been standing since it was built for the 1962 World’s Fair. If you're a conspiracy theorist, you can find out finally if it is truly an alien space craft in hiding, and prove to your friends you’re right. Either way, the city has lots to offer.
And if for some reason the autocross wasn’t enough, there will surely be a good party at the end of each night. If tradition continues, Eric and Laurie Hyman will have their famous margarita machine going and you too can enjoy the following mornings Hyman-Hangover™. If hard liquor isn’t your thing, the North West is know for its amazing beer and great wine. Come enjoy some good people, beautiful views and fun driving around cones. We hope to see you there!
