The Rain is gone in Texas and it’s been replaced by bright and sunny skies, and an early sign of Texas Heat in June. With high temps and fast sweeping courses, here at the 2015 Mineral Wells Pro Solo, we are seeing great action across the entire field.
Saturday marked the completion of the first day of Class Competition and here are some of the battles we are keeping a close eye on as we move into day two tomorrow morning.
In A-Street Vivek Goel finds himself in a familiar place. Leading the pack in a grouping of very fast Street Machines, Vivek is laying down some awesome times in his Chevrolet Corvette. He leads a group of four other drivers though all lurking within a combined total of near 1.5 seconds. It will certainly be anyone’s race in A-Street tomorrow as we expect similar hot and fast conditions to what we saw today.
Sticking with the Street Classes, the F-Street race is one that we are keeping an eye on. Kevin Youngers is currently on top by a very narrow margin over Ken Orgeron, and Ken will be gunning to make up time on Sunday morning. This is a great battle between two very fast drivers, with Kevin in a Ford Mustang and Ken in his BMW M3.
The STS class has been one of the very best to watch across all of the national events this year and in Mineral Wells they are holding true to form with a great race. Making the trip on from across the country Kinch Reindl finds himself out front currently after Saturday. Apparently Kinch decided after Saturday morning to make a tire change, and forfeited his first four runs. That decision proved to be the right one though as he vaulted to the top of the standings in the afternoon on the new tire. Gerry Terranova is currently in 2nd and watch out for a charging Grant Watkins in 3rd place. Grant is really gunning for his first National Win, and this would be a great opportunity to get it in his home event just outside Dallas/Fort Worth.
Taking a look at the defending Champion of this event, we find Mark Madarash again in his top form leading the Race 2 group. Mark overcame a lot of tough competition last year in this race to win the Super Challenge bracket and we expect this year to another solid outcome for Mark. He currently is leading the class over Troy Acosta in his 1999 Porsche Boxster as these drivers jockey for position going into challenge competition Sunday afternoon.
Mark Madarash waits calmly in Grid for his runs during Saturday class competition in Mineral Wells.
Finally, we have been seeing some excellent ladies competition this weekend with deep fields in L2 and L3 and lots of competitive drivers. One race in particular that has been fascinating to watch thus far in the class competition has been the race between Jordan Townes and Su Brude in L2. Jordan is in her D-Street Subaru 2015 WRX and Su is in her 2009 Porsche Cayman, less than three tenths back of Jordan after day one. These two ladies swapped position back and forth yesterday on almost every run and we expect that intense competition to continue today.

Jordan Townes poses next to her 2015 Subaru WRX in Mineral Wells, 2015.
