Tune-In: 2015 Tire Rack Mineral Wells ProSolo

Tune In to uStream!

"Well there's Floodin' down in Texas" as Stevie Ray Vaughan most famously sang. That song has certainly been ringing true over the month of May in the Lone Star State, as Texas has witnessed its wettest month in a very long time. However, May is behind us, June is here, and the Weather forecast looks phenomenal for this weekend's running of the Mineral Wells Texas Pro Solo.

Hosted by the Large and always fun Texas Region SCCA this has become a popular stop on the Pro Solo National Tour and is known for incredible completion and even more incredible fun. Texas Region knows how to host an event, and this year will be no exception, with a great theme, parties each night and a great site.

As we gear up for this race, things are starting to take shape in the 2015 Pro Solo Series, and as such there will be several races and points battles we will be following this weekend.

Starting off in the Ladies Classes we will see two of the top contenders for the Class Points both in attendance this week. Su Brude from Frisco, Texas has a win at Blytheville earlier in the year and a runner up finish at the Lincoln Pro Solo. She will have the opportunity to continue a very strong season. Hopefully Donna Marx can be in attendance after trailer and towing woes returning from Ohio to give her a run for her money in her smoking fast Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

In Ladies Class Two, there is a strong field of point’s contenders and fast drivers that will be in attendance. First up is Jodi Fordahl making the trip from the West Coast in her 1971 Porsche 914. You won't find Jodi in the L2 points battle, but don’t be fooled. She’s run events in three different classes this year with solid showings in each, and we expect her to be strong this weekend. She will go up against Jordan Towns in her D-Street 2015 Subaru WRX for starters. Jordan regularly beats the boys in the D-Street class on the Championship Tour and is coming off a very strong performance in Lincoln. Other drivers to watch in this class will be Jackie Mutschler from Houston in her Camaro and Meredith Brown from Los Alamos, New Mexico in her 2003 Toyota MR2. Both of these ladies have had two very strong showings thus far in the season and are sure to contribute to a strong race.

Ladies Class Three is stacked with talent and perhaps the deepest field to draw from potential challenge winners. Led by Multiple National Champion and 2015 Winner Kim Whitener. This is Kim's home event so she will certainly be geared up for a strong showing near her home town and build upon two earlier season wins already in Pro Solo competition. She will be met by Mindi Cross from Phoenix. Mindi comes into this week's event with two podiums under her belt in class competition this year. Connie Booker who was strong in Blytheville earlier in the year will be another driver to watch. Coming off a second place finish in Lincoln, Kyung Wootton will be another driver we will be following. All of these top contenders will be challenged by a strong contingent of locals that can win on any given day. For starters expect Sharon Eberlein to be in the mix. Sharon is right in the point’s battle and has a lot of familiarity with this surface. Jennifer Maxcy in her Vorshlag Motorsports BMW 328is is another local to watch. Last and certainly not least coming off a Championship Tour Class win at Spring Nationals, is Hailey Mahone. In one of the fastest and most familiar Honda CRX entries in the field Hailey is gaining more and more confidence and will be up on the wheel and ready to pounce.

One of the larger classes in this year’s event will be C-Street. Becoming a very popular class on the National Tour, there will be 17 entries and heavy competition in this group. Perhaps the favorite to win this week is David Ogburn III. David is coming into this week second in class points for the year behind Adrian Cardenas, and will look to try and overtake that top position by the end of the weekend. He will have strong competition. First up is Andy Neilson who was third earlier in the year to round out the Blytheville podium. Also, look for a really strong showing by some of the local hot shoes this weekend. Brandon Slater and Zach Lemoine will both be in attendance from Texas Region SCCA. These two have Epic Battles in the Regional Events, and will look to push each other faster and faster this weekend. Zack Barnes is another driver to keep an eye on in this group. A veteran of Autocross events and always in the conversation in his class he can and will be someone to keep an eye on in this group.

Always one of the most popular and interesting races to watch week-to-week on the National SCCA Solo scene is that of STS and this week will be no exception. Perhaps the deepest and most competitive class at the event this weekend. Expect this class to come right down to the wire and be decided by the smallest of margins. Up first is Kinch Reindl. Making the trip down to Texas from Colorado, he already has two wins in this class under his belt earlier in the season at El Toro and Lincoln. He will be for sure the favorite.Hot on his heels and looking to take a lead and make a Texas sized statement will be Gerry Terranova.Gerry has been bad fast all year long in every event he’s entered and is great at coming from behind as well and sneaking up on the rest of the field. Gerry will be joined by Jay Yost and Barry Booker as well both coming into mid-season form with strong showings throughout the year already.Perhaps, where a lot of the fireworks will come from in this group is from the Texas Region group of drivers that will be pushing each other very hard and looking to further enhance their own National Level point’s positions. Blanton Payne and Grant Watkins will be in one of the Whitener prepared Civics along with Terranova and both of these young men are full of speed and lack fear of pushing to the limit to take wins. Additionally co-drivers Bob Neff and Steve Eberlein will both be in attendance this week as well in this class and can make important strides in points.

The last class we are featuring in our tune-in article is another large one. STR will have 15 entries and some great drivers for us to keep an eye on. Eric Davis had a strong showing earlier in the year at Blytheville and will be in attendance this week, making the trip down from Conway, Arkansas. Ricky Crow will also be in attendance. Ricky is the class point’s leader in STR this year and has two previous wins under his belt already in the year. He is certainly one of the top favorites in class and challenge competition this week and is always exciting to watch.Robert Irish is coming off a second place finish in Lincoln and will join the mix. Other drivers to watch in this class include local driver Armstrong Vongsavath who is very familiar with this surface and an up and coming driver for sure. He will be joined by two other points contenders in STR as well. David Rock making the trip from Arizona has two really strong races on his resume this year at El Toro and Lincoln and Jon Pomrenke will also be in the lineup. Jon has had a pair of impressive podiums already this year in what is always a deep field in STR. Look for this group to put on a heck of a race.

So, weather looks great, surface is fast and parties are fun! What’s not to like in Mineral Wells, Texas this weekend everyone! Cya there!
