286 drivers anxiously watched the weather radar as the Lincoln Championship Tour opened to raining skies and wet courses. The rain subsided as runs started giving first heat competitors 3 shots at a soggy course. CS saw Chris Fenter put his MX-5 atop the 21 car field with a blistering second run. Dave Ogburn pushed his Scion FR-S to within 8 tenths for second place with Chris Harvey and his MX-5 just a tenth back in third. In the all Corvette SSR, Sam Strano put in a flying first lap to build 1.1 second margin over Tony Savini. Savini needed all three runs to get his best time, putting him 1.1 seconds ahead of Cam Withell.

Heat two saw rapidly drying conditions place a premium on being able to take full advantage of run number three. Having a codriver helped as well as second drivers had the best possible conditions. David Whitener took full advantage of his third run, pushing his Miata to a 1.1 second day 1 lead over Ricky Crow and his S2000. Such was the impact of the drying conditions that even though Greg Janulis had a cone on his third run it stood as his best time and gave him the third trophy spot.

After the break heat three had three dry but messy looks at the course. In ESP Brian Peters pushed his Grabber Blue 2011 Mustang to a blazing final run giving him a 1.4 second lead over codriver John Hogan. Justin Eckles survived early cone trouble to hold down the third spot in his 1998 Mustang Cobra.

Heat 4 brought tight competition in the 19 car STS field. Adam Barber grabbed the day one lead with a flying third run in his 1989 Honda Civic. A scant four tenths of second back was John Mensch in his 1988 CRX. Three tenths behind him was Thomas Grant also in an 88 CRX with Blanton Payne a scant 0.006 back in the fourth spot.

The skies were dark and threatening for most of heat 5 but the rain never fell. B Street was not only one of the larger classes with 15 cars, but it was one of the most diverse with the top five trophy spots occupied by 5 different makes. Jeff Bandes and his Pontiac Solstice go into day to with a half second lead over Rob Rurak and his S2000. Joey Green and his Corvette were just 3 tenths behind Burak in third place.

The weather will continue to play a role on day two as the ever changing forecast shows that rain will be a factor especially in the early morning and afternoon. Stay tuned for all the action and cross your fingers for dry weather!
