Update on F Production Driver Steve Hussey

Steve Hussey, driver of the No. 37 LinnSpeed/Teknik Lotus Super Seven involved in the incident at Mid-Ohio’s backstretch “kink” during the F Production Runoffs race, is back at home in California resting comfortably and in good spirits.

“I wish to thank the SCCA course and emergency workers that helped me when I was in no condition to render any emergency egress or actions,” Hussey said in an email.  “I have no memory of the race after the first lap or the incident.  I do have my in-car video which shows the story from my driver’s seat, but it’s like watching fiction because none of it strikes a resonant chord with me.”

From the track, Hussey was flown to the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus where he spent 24 hours in the trauma ward.

“I received excellent care there and was released from the hospital on Monday, late morning,” Hussey noted.  “I flew home on Monday night, 24 hours after I was originally booked.  Other than continuing headaches and being tired, I’m doing well.  So, I imagine my recovery will go just fine.”

His car will need some repair, and he’ll require a new helmet and driver’s suit since the medical team literally cut him out of it, but it sounds as if Hussey intends to return to the track next year.

On behalf of everyone in the SCCA, we wish Hussey the very best and a speedy recovery.
