SCCA U.S. Majors Tour Southeast Conference Champions Crowned
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 6, 2016) – The 2016 Southeast Conference SCCA U.S. Majors Tour is in the books. Nearly 700 drivers competed in the Southeast Conference this year, but only 28 were crowned Conference Champions.
The Southeast Conference launched into its 10-round season early in January. Round One and Round Two took place at Homestead Miami Speedway. Later that same month, Round Three and Round Four occurred at Sebring International Raceway. The Conference then took a month break before Round Five and Round Six at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, Louisiana. In March, Southeast Conference competitors took to the legendary Road Atlanta circuit for Round Seven and Round Eight. The season then wrapped up with two rounds at VIRginia International Raceway in April.
Points are awarded to the top 20 finishers in each Class. Winners earn 25 points, and 21 points go to second. Points are then doled out to others starting with 18 and descending to a single point for the 20th finisher. Only the best eight races count towards a driver’s point total.
A couple Classes in the Southeast Conference had tremendous participation this year. Spec Racer Ford Gen3 had more than 80 drivers, and Spec Miata had over 100 racers. Several Classes also had really, really tight battles for the Conference Championship. In H Production, Andrew Wright won out over Michael Miller by five points. The Formula 500 winner, Russell Strate Jr., claimed victory by just four points over John Walbran. But the closest finish by far was in Formula F where Will Harvey bested David Livingston Jr. by one single point.

The SCCA Majors Tour is a gateway to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Garmin VIRB being held September 19-25 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Drivers earn an invite to the annual event by participating in a minimum of three separate U.S. Majors Tour events and have a minimum of three individual race finishes, all in the same Class. Competitors must either finish in the top 10 of a Conference’s point standings in a Class with more than 20 participants or score points in the top 50 percent of the Class. Another route to the Runoffs is to score points in the top 50 percent of the Nationwide point standings within a Class.
