Grids Set For Saturday National At Sebring

SEBRING, Fla. (January 6, 2012) – After a morning of practice at the 17-turn, 3.7-mile Sebring International Raceway, seven groups qualified on Friday afternoon for Saturday’s SCCA SafeRacer Club Racing National Series race hosted by the Central Florida Region, the first of the 2012 season. The weekend schedule features morning races on Saturday, followed by qualifying for Sunday’s BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour races on Sunday.

Fifty-two cars posted times in Spec Miata, which composed Group 1. Patrick Sandlin topped the large class with a time of 2:35.902 in the No. 58 Community Mortgage Mazda Miata.

“Wings and Things,” featuring Formula Atlantic, Formula 1000, Formula Continental, C Sports Racing and D Sports Racing, composed Group 2. Jacek Mucha, driving the No. 07 Phoenix/Innotech Siwft 016 in CSR, led the group with a time of 2:00.842. Keith Grant (FA), Charles Dempsey (DSR), Brian Belarde (FC) and Brett Lane (FB) all earned class poles for Saturday.

The big bore production-based machines made up Group 3, led by John Schaller’s No. 08 Central Power Distributers Chevrolet Camaro with a fast lap of 2:05.136. David Pintaric led STO, Bill McGavic led GT-3, and Brian Lacroix bested American Sedan in the same grouping.

Groups 4 and 5 are combined until Sunday’s race, with Michael Flynn leading the 60-car group with a best time of 2:23.786 in the No. 126 Irish Mike’s BMW 325. Other class polesitters from the session include Greg Ira (EP), Brian Kleeman (T2), Peter Shawdowen (GTL), Austin Britton (FP), Mike Kramer (T3), Toby Grahovec (SSB), and Raymond Philibert (STL), and Tim Pitts (HP).

A field of 35 Spec Racer Fords comprised Group 6, with Chad Galloway’s 2:33.218 in the No. 05 Pelicanwater.com/PM Racing Spec Racer Ford earning the top spot for Saturday’s race.

Stuart Rettie led the final group of the day in the No. 21 Hillenburg Motorsports Formula Mazda with a time of 1:40.215. Lewis Cooper (FF), Jason Wolfe (FE), Burns Moore (S2), Jason Knuteson (F500) and Lisa Noble (FV) all earned class poles for the Group 7 race, the only race after lunch on Sunday.

Qualifying for Sunday’s BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour race will happen after Saturday’s races.
