Lorenz Named SCCA Majors Program Manager

TOPEKA, Kan. (March 23, 2012) – To help serve the competitors and Regions involved in the Majors pilot program for 2012, Sports Car Club of America announced that Gayle Lorenz, from New Bern, N.C., has been contracted as Majors Program Manager.

An SCCA member for 23 years, Lorenz will help the SCCA National Office manage the pilot program that covers the Midwest, Rocky Mountain and Southwest Divisions as the first point of contact for the Regions hosting a Majors event, as well as helping to recruit drivers to the events.

“Bringing Gayle on demonstrates the commitment by both the SCCA Board of Directors and the Club to this new program,” Terry Ozment, Vice President of Club Racing, said. “Her responsibility lies in the administration of the Majors pilot program, and her own Region experience will help us balance the needs of the host Regions with the goals of the program to make it successful for all.”

The position of Majors Program Manager pulls a page from the SCCA Pro Racing playbook, placing the administrative details of a race event under one umbrella. Prior to this position, Lorenz has served the Washington D.C. Region as Regional Executive, the Director of Club Racing, and spent 12 years as the Race Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series (MARRS). Lorenz also served as the National Administrator of Grid and Pit from 2005 to 2010.

Lorenz will work out of her New Bern home, where she currently resides with her husband, Rich. She can be reached by email at majors@scca.com or by phone at (785) 862-7117.

In 2012, the Majors program will run as a trial pilot in the central part of the country, with a planned national launch for 2013. The program opened concurrently with the BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour, March 9-11 at Texas World Speedway, with both programs moving to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, April 14-15.
