Coming Back For More: The BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour program got its start in 2011 at Texas World Speedway, and Hallett was one of the events on the six-race schedule. This year, all nine Super Tour races are the qualifying events for the prestigious Super Sweep Trophy.
Drivers can earn a Super Sweep trophy by winning a Super Tour Race, the nation-wide point standings, a Divisional Championship, and a National Championship at the Runoffs, all in the same class.
Packing The House: With 128 cars set to take on the 1.8-mile circuit, the entire facility will be packed with cars and trailers.
The largest of the six race groups is Group 2, which features the Production car classes, along with STU, STL, and GT-Lite. The 39-car group features National Champions Kent Prather (running in GTL), Toby Grahovec (running in STU), Jesse Prather (E Production), and Joe McClughan (STU), along with SCCA RallyCross National Champion Sam Henry in the F Production race.
National Champ Hans Peter is in action in Formula Atlantic, where he won the BFGoodrich Super Tour in his return to racing a season ago.
Hometown Heros: Four Tulsa residents are participating this weekend in their hometown race in front of family and friends. Neil Cox has entered his No. 8 Rally Distibuting Protoform P3 in Formula Vee; Brian Laughlin will race the No. 25 Tulsa Radiology Associates/Mazda/Hoosier Mazda Miata in STL; Randy Wagner is driving the No. 86 MAZDASPEED/Goodyear Mazda Miata in F Production; and George Walker will pilot the No. 41 Mazda Miata in the GT-3 race.
Fun For The Family: Fans are welcome for the event at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, where admission is $10, with children 12 and under free. The gates open for spectators at 8 AM on Saturday and Sunday. Admission includes a free program and a paddock pass allowing spectators into the garage areas for up close visits with the cars and drivers.
Hallett Motor Racing Cirucut is located in Jennings, Oklahoma, 35 miles west of Tulsa just off the Cimarron Turnpike at Highway 99. Spectators are welcome to view the pre-race practice and qualifying starting at 8 a.m. each day, as well as getting up close and personal to victory circle at the conclusion of each race. Super Tour, Season Two, In a Major Way: For the second year, the top level of the Sports Car Club of America’s Club Racing program returns to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. The race is the third of nine BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour events on the schedule, with one in each of the SCCA’s geographical divisions – and the second of the SCCA Majors program introduced on a pilot basis in the central part of the country.
The BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour activities will occur during Sunday’s races of the doubleheader weekend. Each race winner will be given a victory lap and commemorative checkered flag, and the top three in each class will be treated to victory circle ceremonies after each race. From The Everyday To The Incredible: The racers at this weekend’s BFGoodrich Tires Midwest Super Tour are a unique mix of talented drivers. Most are “weekend warriors,” mixing it up on the track on the weekends before heading home to their day-to-day jobs through the week. Some are youngsters with an eye on a professional driving career, honing their craft while looking to the future. The common theme to an SCCA competition is that these are seemingly ordinary people doing extraordinary things with racecars.
How prolific can these drivers become? Start with the motorsports legends – Bobby Rahal, Mark Donohue, Roger Penske, Michael Andretti, and actor/driver Paul Newman got their start in SCCA Club Racing. More recently, you could have seen current stars Boris Said, Graham Rahal, Sam Hornish or Scott Sharp at a Club race.
The Best In Amateur Racing: SCCA Club Racing is the top level of amateur motorsports. Of the 300 Club Racing events held coast-to-coast, 70 of them are designated as “National” events, meaning they are qualifying events for the National Championship Runoffs® and comprise the SafeRacer SCCA National Racing Series. Of these 70 events, only nine are designated as BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour races, bringing the National spotlight to town and making this weekend among a select group of can’t-miss events across the country.
At Hallett, the racing weekend consists of combined Regional and National races on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour races. Points for the BFGoodrich Super Tour will only be earned for Sunday’s races, however.
For those in the Midwest, Rocky Mountain or Southwest Divisions, the event weekend doubles as the second “Major” event. Both races will earn points toward the season-long Majors Championship.
