TOPEKA, Kan. (July 27, 2012) – SCCA confirmed today that no changes would be made with regard to eligibility requirements for participation in the 2012 National Championship Runoffs, specifically relating to B-Spec cars running in Showroom Stock C.
On July 13, SCCA announced that the Pirelli World Challenge Championship would sponsor the B-Spec Shootout within the SSC race at the Runoffs, offering contingency prizes including cash and entries into the professional series in 2013 to the top three finishing B-Spec participants. Out of that announcement came speculation that the qualification criteria to participate in the event had changed. SCCA confirmed today that it has not, and will not.
“While we would love to see a dozen or more B-Spec cars running together, this event is, first and foremost, our National Championship Runoffs,” SCCA Chairman Jerry Wannarka said. “Changing the criteria for an exhibition running within one of the existing Championship races is not an option we’re interested in pursuing.”
To qualify for an invitation to the 2012 SCCA National Championship Runoffs in SSC, or any other Nationally-recognized class, drivers will need to have a minimum of 4 starts (2 must be in your division) and 4 finishes AND achieve at least one of four criteria based on Divisional and National points. They are: - Finish in the top three of their class in their Divisional Championship. - Finish in the top half of the coast-to-coast, National Point Standings within their class. - Reach or exceed a minimum number of points for a given class in the National Point Standings (listed below). - Finish eight or more National races
The 49th SCCA National Championship Runoffs takes place at Road America September 18-23, 2012. For more information, please visit www.scca.com/runoffs.
