LA PAZ, Mexico (November 26, 2012) –National Champions Luke Wilwert and Michael Crawford moved from National Championship Runoffs moved from their respective Showroom Stock machines to one that was decidedly not stock to help score a class win for the Team BFGoodrich Baja Challenge Car last week in the famed Mexican off-road race.

Wilwert and Crawford earned their spots on the team with victories in September at Road America while shod with the Official Street Tire of SCCA in the SSB and SSC race, respectively. The pair were joined by Hollywood TV producer Bud Brutsman, custom-car builder Kyle Tucker, 2012 TORC Pro Lite Champion Brad Lovell and his brother and pro-rock racer Roger Lovell.

CV joint issues plagued the team toward pit eight, but the team made a critical repair and comeback with the help of their chase crew. The team finished the grueling 1,121.55-mile race in 28 hours and 48 minutes.

BFGoodrich Tires claimed nine of the top 10 overall finish positions, including a win on the Trophy Truck of Gustavo Vildosola, Jr., Tavo Vildosola, and Javi Valenzuela.

In this year’s event, more than 300 entries from 34 US states and 23 countries competed in 35 Pro and six Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs. Since 1967, the preeminent desert race has been run over the mysterious and challenging Baja California peninsula, except in 1974 when the international fuel crisis forced a cancellation.
