BRASELTON, Ga. (March 15, 2013) – Rounds Three and Four of the SCCA Eastern Conference Majors Tour began today at Road America, with the first qualifying sessions for Saturday and Sunday’s races.
Two 20 minute qualifying sessions served as the basis for both race grids. The best time from both Friday morning and Saturday morning’s sessions will set the grid for the Saturday races. Sunday’s round four gets a unique format – grids will be set by the best single lap in either Friday afternoon’s qualifying, or the fast lap in Saturday’s race, whichever is better for the driver.
Cars in seven Runoff-eligible groups took to the 12-turn, 2.54-mile circuit for the session, with a number of the Conference point leaders sitting on the provisional poles for Saturday’s races.
Danny Steyn set the pace in Spec Miata, driving the No. 39 ADEPT Studios/ROSSINI/OPM/Traqmate Mazda Miata to the provisional pole in 1:43.041. Keith Grant’s No. 40 Hoosier/Hasselgren/Polestar Formula Atlantic machine and Jacek Mucha’s No. 07 Phoenix-Innotech/Mazda C Sports Racing machine both landed in the top two spots of Group six with a 1:18.290 and 1:19.762 flying lap, respectively, and Jeffrey Werth’s American Sedan-leading No. 46 Hoosier/OG Racing/WRE LLC/Advanced Engine machine topped his class with a 1:37.097.
Brad Davis added his name to the top for Sunday’s races, provisionally, in H Production, with a lap of 1:48.040 in the No. 54 MINI of Charleston/MINIUSA.com MINI Cooper.
The second qualifying session for Saturday’s race gets underway at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Each group will get a 15-minute qualifying to finalize the grids before the 18-lap or 35-minute Eastern Conference Majors Tour races that follow.
