Hallett Tradition: When drivers across the Midwest speak of a Club Racing track, they speak fondly of Hallett and the tradition it holds. Originally founded by Toly Aruntunoff, a longtime SCCA Club racer and still a Tulsa resident, the 37-year-old facility hosts a layout that thrills drivers in the SafeRacer National Series.
Majors Count: Through early-season races in the Eastern, Western and Mid-States Conferences, the Majors program has gotten rave reviews from participants. Each of the early season events has seen increased participation from comparable National Races a season ago. The weather in Hallett for this weekend’s Major indicates another increase this weekend, with 110 entries on the entry list.
Green Flags: The 10-car E Production race is very top heavy, including Mid-States Conference point leader and double winner at Circuit of the Americas Matt Reynolds, three-time National Champion Jesse Prather, and Pirelli World Challenge race winner Tony Rivera… Defending Spec Miata National Champion Jim Drago and Craig Berry split the weekend at COTA in March. Both are on the entry list this weekend… Eric Prill and Sam Henry split the F Production race at COTA, and resume the point battle this weekend at Hallett… Keith Verges beat an 80-plus car field in Spec Racer Ford at COTA, and Denny Stripling was on the podium both days. Expect each of them to contend for race wins this weekend, as well… In Formula Mazda, the Saturday podium in Round 1 was Alan McCallum, followed by Timothy Reger and Darryl Wills. Wills was the victor over McCallum on Sunday at COTA. All three are back for Round Three and Four this weekend.
The Dawn Of An Era: In September 2012, the Sports Car Club of America rolled out the U.S. Majors Tour as the top level of amateur racing in this country. With events coast-to-coast and split into four Conferences, the Mid-States Conference season opened at the brand-new Circuit of the Americas and continues this weekend at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. Drivers are coming from all over the Mid-West to participate in the weekend, featuring an enhanced race experience for drivers and fans, from pre-race to post-race activities.
SCCA Club Racers – The Best In The Country: There many amateur road racing groups in the United States, but the clear leader of top drivers is with the SCCA. Though most are weekend warriors who take vacations from their full-time jobs to attend races, it’s a craft taken seriously. Bobby Rahal, Mark Donohue, Roger Penske, Michael Andretti, and actor/driver Paul Newman got their start in SCCA Club Racing. More recently, you could have seen current stars Boris Said, Graham Rahal, Sam Hornish or J.R. Hildebrand at an SCCA Club race. This weekend features National Champions, professional race winners and series champions, and up-and-coming stars on the entry list.
