The BFGoodrich Tires NOLA Super Tour kicks off the Mid-States Conference Majors Tour season this weekend at NOLA Motorsports Park, with Rounds 1 and 2 of the season. Each of the seven groups will qualify twice on Friday, and again on Saturday morning, before the Saturday afternoon timed races. Sunday features a full day of racing. Opening Up: The Eastern Conference and the Western Conference both began their seasons in January, with the Mid-States Conference taking its turn. The Mid-States Conference covers the SCCA’s Southwest, Midwest and Rocky Mountain Divisions, running from Louisiana and Texas north through Nebraska in the Midwest, and Montana south through New Mexico in the Rocky Mountain. Freshman Visit: This weekend’s BFGoodrich Tires NOLA Super Tour at NOLA Motorsports Park is the first SCCA Majors visit to the relatively new track just outside the city. The 16-turn, 2.75-mile circuit was designed by Allan Wilson, who laid out Barber Motorsports Park and Miller Motorsports Park, among others.

A new track provides challenges for the 125 drivers that may not be present at a familiar one, chief among them learning the new layout. The three timed qualifying sessions before racing begins will help, but it’s an opportunity for the cream to rise to the top.

Where There’s A Wills: One defending SCCA National Champion is popping up in an unfamiliar location. Formula Mazda winner Darryl Wills is coming over from Texas to drive in Spec Racer Ford along with his Formula Mazda.

Both classes are Spec machinery, but the low-aero sports racer obviously handles very differently than the high downforce and rotary power of the open wheel machine. Even so, look for the skilled driver to factor into the 28 car SRF race.

Fun for The Family: Fans may attend the event at NOLA as guests of the SCCA for a $5 fee. Admission allows spectators into the garage areas for up-close visits with the drivers and cars.
