Mosport SPEED World Challenge Action Airs This Week

TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 26, 2008) €“ The SCCA Pro Racing Mosport SPEED World Challenge Races Presented by Toyo Tires will have fans on their feet when they air Wednesday, Aug. 27, on SPEED.SCCA SPEED GT kicks things off at noon (EDT). Eric Curran starts from pole in the No. 30 Whelen Engineering Chevrolet Corvette, but Randy Pobst in the No. 1 K-PAX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 and the No. 5 Coastal Pet Products Dodge Viper of Jason Daskalos get off the line quicker, dropping Curran to third. After drag racing Daskalos down the back stretch on lap four to take the runner-up spot, Curran sets his sights on Pobst. The defending race winner quickly discovers that catching Pobst is one thing, passing him is another. Even a restart from a full-course caution period doesn€™t provide Curran an opportunity to push his powerful Corvette past Pobst€™s nimble Porsche. Keep the channel on SPEED to see how many times Curran will take a look heading into Turn Eight before finally committing.Next, at 1 p.m. (EDT), the ultra close battle for the SCCA SPEED Touring Car Championship gets even tighter as Chip Herr leads the pack into Turn One in the No. 97 Mazdaspeed/Tindol Motorsports MAZDA6, while the No. 36 and No. 38 BimmerWorld BMWs of James Clay and Seth Thomas try to fight their way past Herr€™s teammate, Michael Galati. Clay successfully moves into second and is immediately pressuring Herr for the lead before a half shaft failure brings the Road America winner€™s race to an early close on the back stretch. Galati finds it much easier to get past Herr in the No. 95 Mazda North America/Tindol MAZDA6 and begins to open a lead. Trouble is brewing behind him however, as Thomas grows impatient trying to find a spot to pass Herr. The battle for second is the one to watch and there€™s no excuse to miss these two exchanging paint all the way to the checkered flag (if they make it that far) on SPEED. Divided into two separate series and races (SCCA SPEED GT and SCCA SPEED Touring Car), the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Championships are America€™s top production car-based series. Competing at 12 high-profile venues in 2008, the series is an important showcase for the world€™s leading auto brands and makers of performance parts.
