LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Feb. 20, 2009) Day two of the 45th Sports Car Club of America National Convention at South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., was highlighted by a Rally and Solo awards luncheon and a presentation by Dr. Rick Brinkman, an expert in practical communication strategies.To begin the Rally and Solo awards luncheon, it was announced that Marnie Soom had won the All in a Days Drive RoadRally photo competition. In addition to having her photo published in an upcoming issue of SportsCar, Soom receives $250 and a years subscription to RACER Magazine.The RoadRally awards continued with Detroit Region earning the Regional Achievement Award and Northeast Division claiming the Divisional Achievement Award. Oregon Regions The Barlow Trail, was awarded National Tour Rally of the Year, and the regions Beaver Cleaver won the Arthur Gervais Award for National Course Rally of the Year. To close the RoadRally portion of the program, James Han, from the National Marketing Department at Subaru of America Inc., was on hand to collect the marques fifth-consecutive RoadRally Manufacturer of the Year award.From the RallyCross program, Colorado Region was presented with Regional Achievement award, while the Midwest Division came away with the Divisional Achievement award. The Southern Pacific Division was named Solo Division of the Year. Solo Rookie of the Year honors went to Western New York Regions Stephen Yeon. Several Soloist who were presented with awards at the 2008 Solo National Championships were recognized again at the luncheon, including Driver of the Year Sam Strano, Johnson Spirit of the Sport winner Tommy Saunders and Diver of Eminence Andy McKee. The final award of the afternoon, the ProSolo JCJ Cup, went to Utah Regions Billy Brooks.Day two concluded with a presentation on effective communication by Dr. Rick Brinkman. In keeping with the conventions theme of make it easy, make it fun, Brinkman shared tips with attendees on how to improve customer service through clever insights on human behavior and methods for being a more conscious communicator. The 45th SCCA National Convention concludes Saturday. Presentations and audio recordings from various sessions will be posted to scca.com shortly after the event.
