Technical Bulletin: Timing Errors/Trigger Failure Using GPS Timing Systems
It has been discovered that occasionally GPS timing apps fail to record a contestant's time or records an incorrect time. The following Technical Bulletin outlines methods a Rally Committee may use to address this issue.
If a GPS app misses a contestant’s time or records an obviously incorrect time the rally committee may alleviate the problem by one of the following:
- Discard the leg(s) from scoring for all contestants.
- Adjust an individual contestant’s score. Two methods are allowed:
- (Preferred) Arrival time recorded on a back-up device.
- Adjust the contestant’s score to the average of their non-max scores (e.g. average of all other scores, the average of all scores in section where the error occurred, the average of the scores on the legs immediately preceding & the leg immediately following the leg(s) in question.)
- In regard to Course Rallies, the contestant must state that the failure of the app was the direct cause of their error.
