The Tire Rack SCCA® Red Hills Solo® National Tour was the second stop on the 2025 Solo National Tour calendar, taking place March 21-23 at the always-popular Spence Field in Moultrie, GA, located not far from the Florida-Georgia border.
Sunny weather and the ever-popular JXB welcome party that sported beverages, pizza, cookies, more beverages, ice cream, and even more beverages were among the highlights of the event – well, along with the stout competition that ran from beginning to end.
The weekend featured some usual suspects along with surprise wins, and offered many competitors an early-season opportunity to knock any rust off while prepping for this September’s Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships.
Winning Stories
Solo Spec Coupe is designed to be a true driver’s class, with equally prepared cars that put the wheel in the hands of the drivers, literally – and it played out exactly that way in Red Hills, where William Bostic took a 0.101sec win over Felipe Gonzalez. It was far from a two-horse race, though. Mike Lawson was another 0.294sec behind Gonzalez, with Maxey just 0.030sec out of fourth for the final trophy spot. Chip Manuel was the first driver outside of the trophies, missing out on the hardware by 0.150sec (which means he was only 0.575sec short of the win).
Super Street Prepared may not be top of mind for ultra-close competition, but they broke the stereotype in Moultrie. Mike Kuhn led the first day in his 2015 Porsche 911 GT3, but Eric Stemler battled back for a 0.051sec win in his Chevrolet Corvette.
Street Modified FWD was just as close, this time in an intramural battle in Jonathan Bennett’s Honda CRX. Mike Casino laid down a quick Sunday time to close the gap to just 0.054sec behind Bennett, but the car owner kept the win.
Meanwhile, perhaps no one has figured out the Club Spec MX-5 quite like Mike King, who rattled off a win by 1.116sec over Carlos Morales.
David Nolan earned his first-ever Solo National Tour win over co-driver Aditya Madhavan. Likewise, Geraghty Anne Ellis earned her first Ladies Street Tire Bump class victory at a Solo National Tour. Ellis captured the win in a DST-prepared Scion FR-S, beating a competitive field that saw Amy Houseal, Karen Babb, and Cindy Duncan in the trophies.
Xtreme Street A driver Lisa Keyes was the SCCA Women on Track Driver Development winner, an initiative that aids one randomly selected woman at each Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour and ProSolo Series event with an opportunity for a one-on-one, 30-minute virtual coaching session with a top-tier driver from the sport. For this weekend’s event, Keyes was coached by Casey Coughlin.
Another SCCA Women on Track initiative is the “Pay it Forward” certificate, which is good for a free National Solo event entry. The catch is, the recipient of this award will not be able to use the free entry themselves; instead, they must present the free entry to a female driver within their SCCA Region who has never competed in National Solo competition. This event’s Pay it Forward recipient was Geraghty Anne Ellis.
There was more – a lot more – that happened during the event, so check out the event results.
