’25 ProSolo Series Season Launch in Texas Doesn’t Disappoint, with a Victory Coming Down to 0.001sec

It’s mid-March, which means two things: St. Patrick’s Day, and the season opener of the 2025 Tire Rack SCCA® ProSolo® Championship Series – specifically, the Tire Rack SCCA South Texas ProSolo at Naval Air Station Chase Field (colloquially known as “Beeville” but this year unofficially dubbed the “Super Bee Pro”) during the March 14-16, 2025, weekend.

The Lone star Region-hosted event offers a mix of grippy concrete and asphalt, adding to the difficulty level of the weekend. The Region also brought the party, grilling up grub on Friday and Saturday night for the competitors.

The weather was a wild one, with Friday’s temps teetering on 100 degrees F. Come Saturday, the mercury dropped into the 80s, but 40+ mph wind caused more than a few cones to wander off. Then Sunday, everything was A-OK.

While we could jump straight into the Challenge winners, let’s first take a look at how we got there.

Class Competition

Brady Loretz and Zbigniew Szymanski each led a side by more than half a second over the other, which made for an interesting competition. In the end, Loretz was 0.104sec quicker than Szymanski in D Street, with his Toyota GR86 finishing ahead of the Subaru BRZ in the battle of the twins.

Speaking of twins, D Street Touring featured Steven Hughes’s Scion FR-S bettering John Hale’s Subaru BRZ on one side to take a 0.292sec class win.

Index classes also brought some tight battles.

In Street 1, Daniel Moore and his XB-prepped Honda Civic was just 0.048sec in front of Mat Becks’s XA-prepped Nissan 240SX at the completion of runs. In the CAM grouping, the CAM-T Chevrolet Camaro of Chris Cargill finished just 0.062sec ahead of the 35-years-newer CAM-C Camaro of Daniel McCelvey.

And how about the Bump Class? Tom Harrington, in a Tony Kart, was (get this!) just 0.001sec in front of Vivek Goel’s AST-classed Mazda MX-5.

In Ladies Class competition, Meredith Brown took the top spot in Ladies Class 2 while driving an SSC Scion FR-S, and Kim Whitener stood tall in an EST Mazda Miata through Ladies Class 3.

Also in Ladies, the SCCA Women on Track Driver Development winner was Ladies Class 2 driver Dawn Sullivan, who was coached by Ricky Crow. The SCCA Women on Track Driver Development initiative aids one randomly selected woman at each Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour and ProSolo Series event with an opportunity for a one-on-one, 30-minute virtual coaching session with a top-tier driver from the sport. Sullivan’s first day improvements were notable, as she dropped more than two seconds from her first run to her last.

Beeville Challenge Winners

Kasey Gintner earned a class trophy in Ladies Class 2, but when she drew into the Bonus Challenge, she figured she should stick around for the full day. Gintner’s Ford Focus RS sent Terry Neuville, Bryan Vogel, and then finale-bound Chris Fletcher home to take the Challenge bracket victory.

The Ladies Challenge ran true to the class competition, with Ladies Class 2 winner Brown meeting Ladies Class 3 winner Kim Whitener in the final. Whitener’s “blurple” Miata took victory and the points for the Challenge win.

As the Ladies Challenge winner, Kim Whitener will have the ability to present an SCCA Women on Track “Pay It Forward” certificate to a female novice from her Region.

In the Super Challenge, McCelvey made up for the narrow miss in class competition with the Super Challenge win. Mason Herrick and David Whitener got chopped by McCelvey, and Todd Roberts was unable to stop that train in the finals as McCelvey took the points. Billy Davis topped David Whitener for third place in the consolation round.

Double Down on Vegas

The next two weeks of Tire Rack ProSolo are all aces, as Vegas hosts back-to-back weekends of competition. Almost 200 are currently on the entry list for both weekends, with more sure to come.

Thankfully, LVMS will allow competitors to stash their trucks and trailers on site between events. Please note that storage availability is on a first come, first served basis.
